I used to post on these boards a number of years ago, but my account seems to have been understandably deleted. Ah well.
I'm trying to clean up Junktown and have recently assassinated Gizmo, with the assistance of the law. I then stole the Urn from Neal at the Skum Pit, gave it to Vinnie of the Skulls, then went and told Lars about their nefarious plot to murder Neal later that evening. I agreed to go and help stop that from happening, with the Urn in my possession. Once there, I, Tycho and Dogmeat all participate in the gun fight blowing away the Skulls. The police are there, but don't lift a finger, yet once the fight is done and all the Skulls dead, they immediately attack me. Now I've beaten the game a few times and know how troublesome NPCs can be so I went through the fight 3 or so times, each time making sure neither I, nor any of my NPCs hit anyone besides hostile gang members, but it made no difference. I even left Tycho out for one of the fights.
As a last resort, I didn't participate at all, which resulted in the gang members killing poor Neal and Trish, and walking out the door right past the police to freedom. Did I do something wrong? I've done this quest several times before with no incidents but is there something I'm missing?
Summary: In the Skum Pit bar fight, the police attack me and not the Skulls no matter what I seem to do. Neither I, nor any of my NPCs accidentally hit them.
