Fallout 3 GOTY crashes everytime I save (Windows 8.1)

Hi all, first time poster here.

This problem's been at me for the last few days and it's making it impossible for me to play the game properly.

Basically the game crashes to my desktop any time a save is made. I've looked at multiple other threads across the net with similar problems but nothing has worked so far for me.


I've already disabled all autosaves but it's still crashing any time I make a new save.


Now I'm not great with system info but here's what i can gather from dxdiag:

Current mods I'm using are:

• Unofficial Fallout 3 patch
• Classic Fallout Weapons
• Kikai's Equipment
• AWOP

Thing is I've disabled all mods through the nexus mod manager and ran the vanilla fallout 3, but when I load a save it still crashes next time I make a new save. I gather it may be a corrupted save but at some point over the last few days I managed to fix the problem but caused it again, probably by installing one of the mods again.
I've also followed the advice from many other threads and edited the fallout.ini file to add the lines:

bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2


Don't know what else to do to fix this, any ideas guys?

Hey Rochy, I have this same problem with Fallout 3. I have windows 8.1 and basically the same HP computer that you have. Nothing I've done has been able to stop my game from crashing every time I save and its starting to get really annoying as I love this game (played it on console for years) and I can't even play it properly like you said. Even Killing myself like people have said in other forums didnt work, and apparently that actually worked for a lot of people. I edited the fallout.ini as well and that didnt work either. My game runs perfectly fine, smooth as silk with crystal clear graphics, but the damn game crashes on every save I make, even on manual saving it just immediately crashes. I also did the player.advlevel trick to see if my file was corrupted and it seemed fine so I dont know what the problem is. I'm replying to your post because I have yet to find a solution to the problem and was wondering if you had fixed the problem yourself? You posted this a few months ago so hopefully you have.

Have you guys tried downloading that dll file? The game kept crashing for me everytime I started a new game, but this fixed it. I can't remember the exact name, but I will let you guys know if I remember it ats.
