I got word that Gary here is working on a Fallout book for the D20 Modern rules, well here's what he said himself:
Hi, my name is Gary Schultz, and I've been working on a Fallout book for the D20 Modern rules. Right now I've got around 48 pages of material, covering weapons, armor, drugs, items, a bestiary, and much more. If people are interested in seeing what I've done and want to throw me some feedback, I have a Yahoo group set up:

I can also be reached at gothdragon@yahoo.com
So for those of you interested in that, go on over..

Interesting. I wonder how it corresponds with some of the other stuff out there- Fallout pen and paper, Darwin's World, and some of the older Post Apoc.

    Any more details Gary?

By the way, the Role Play Board would be a good place for posting messages and exchanging ideas, if you are interested. Just let me know how we can accommodate.

Hi, I'm Gary. I'll try to shed a little more light on what I've done so far.

Before I started this d20 conversion, I read through the Fallout PnP game several times. I think it really served as a road map for me while doing this book. I just recently was able to see the Darwin's World stuff. I like that they've got a fairly detailed history attached to the game. I haven't had a chace to see the new d20 Gamma World (or the old Gamma World stuff) so I can't really comment on that. Overall, I'd say this conversion is probably going to be very deadly (it terms of combat) compared to the other games, but right now it's lacking in original source material.

Right now, I'd have to say this first book is going to try to stick as close to canon material as possible. After this is finished, I plan on doing more material on my own home brew Fallout campaign, as well as another book with additional organizations, technology, monsters, prestige classes, items , etc... I think in this way the game's setting will have a more universal appeal and will get away from having adventures set solely in the American Southwest.

For now, I'd like to keep the design and writing at the Yahoo group. However, people should feel free to read what I've done so far, playtest it, and discuss it here. The more I hear from other people about this project the better it will turn out on the end!

I think this is a good idea (actually I like the idea of a d20 fallout in general).

One suggestion though, Keep Canon and homebrew seperate at all times or give some indication of what things are "home brewed" only.

The made a new Gamma World? Wow. I used to play the original. Now all they need to make is a D20 "Top Secret".

D20 Fallout sounds neat. I stopped roleplaying around the time that system came out, so I don't really know anything about it.

Is it similar to White Wolf's D10 system? That was always my favorite.

Darque - Thanks! Yes, keeping 'canon' and home brew stuff separate is something I'm keeping on mind at all times. I suspect I may come up with a logo or something when this initial book (and any later ones) are done that will signify books containing just canon material.

Malkavian - Yeah, d20 Gamma World came out, oh, a few months ago? I think the new d20 line has maybe 1-2 Gamma World books in the line. d20 is the new new engine for Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, and d20 Modern. Basically, they took out out of the odd dice rolls from 2nd Edition, and but together a skill system that relys on the 20-sider.

Am I wrong to assume that you intend to publish this book? Doing so is virtually impossible without licensing Fallout from interplay, and if you were to publish it as a d20 product, it would have to be entirely closed content because of the license.

I think as long as he published it on a website and made it freely downloadable. As long as he doesn't try to 'publish' it paper wise, he should be alright.

    Isn't the D20 system GPL?

Sammael: You are absolutely right. Thats why I'm using the d20 system, I'm not selling this thing, and I make no claims to ownership of any of the intellectual properties from the Fallout universe. I will not pursue publishing this book in a paper format. I will however, put it into a PDF format for ease of downloading and reading. As always, it is available free of charge at my Yahoo Group.
