has anyone actually tried running F:T on a PII-2 300 with 64MbRAM and a 4Mb video card? I *try* to run it on my computer which is a fair way above the minimum and its sooooo slow.... Maybe I need a new video card, because Voodoo2s are a bit low-tech I suppose...

didnt you say you had 64mgs ram? the box says that 64megs ram is REQUIRED, not sure about the recommended amount. my computer only has 96ram :( and FOT runs sorta choppy sometimes. course my whole computer is outdated and crap anyways.

It's difficult to point to one area as being the culprit because they all make quite a bit of difference. However, upgrading your video card might help, and it certainly wouldn't hurt.

No, he said the box required 64Mb. He didn't say anything about what he had except that he was using a V2.

Yeah, Im thinking of buying one of those nice Prophet 3D cards because theyre cheap, fast and got good reviews, but im worried becasue I dont see how they can run old games which require glide or whatever to run....

Woldn't this go under tech support not general discuision which is for NON-fallout related topics.

Man, you can use a Glide WRAPPER to emulate the Glide API at acceptable speeds with todays cards. Hell, I was able to emulate it pretty well with my old dumpy ATI 128 Rage Fury on shitty ATI drivers. Don't buy 3DFx cards, 3DFx is out of business (good riddance), so no official driver support, and the cards suck by today's standards.

nVidia all the way. Good drivers, good chipset, good cards. My Geforce2 MX 400 cost me only $60 and plays virtually all the games I play (like UT, Quake III, etc) at decent framerates.

You're right, but seriously, nobody visits the technical support forum. I don't understand why we even HAVE that forum. Any forums that have less than one message per WEEK should be merged into this forum.

Uhh, If Id have known that 3dfx were gonna go out of buisness two years after I bought the card, then I wouldnt haev bought it, but I got it when the voodoo2 was the fastest card around.. Id have bought an nvida by now, but im too lazy to go into town to buy one.

Knowing they would go out of business in two years wouldn't deter me. That's a long time. It's the fact that you're using a card THAT old now... Yow! I mean I've got a Voodoo3 laying around my office in disuse because it is too slow, I can't only imagine how slow yours is. Is it PCI? Whatever floats your boat.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-02 AT 05:22AM (GMT)[p]This is too weird; I have a Voodoo 3 that I'm running now, but as stated, it's too damned slow (not to mention that I think it's the reason my DVD-rom keeps freezing). I've been pricing the GeForce 2 MX400 AGP this past week.

dumb question #1) In your honored opinion, is it a card worth buying i.e. something that's not going to be outdated in a year? I'm in the (very) slow process of upgrading certain components of my PC, and was wondering...

dumb question #2) totally off the subject, but I keep seeing references to the "Fallout Bible"; where can one, who is as uninformed as myself, get this?

RE: All not so dumb qs answered.

1. A year and half is usually your best bet, but the graphic card is not the first thing you should upgrade if you are not an avid technicial mongose. To increase speed for a short amount of time, go and buy more RAM. Whatever comes next depends on personal opinion, price range, and technicial judgement.

2. Look up more info on the Main website. The book is still in development, in fact, only the first portion of the first draft is finished.

RE: All not so dumb qs answered.

RAM isn't a problem; I run 512 megs.

RE: All not so dumb qs answered.

i dont even HAVE a 3dfx card.... (feels pathetic and alone) anybody wanna be charitible and donate what you think is crap, but is good for zugercomputer ;)

RE: All not so dumb qs answered.

Well my MX400 costed 100 euros, and i gave away a voodoo3 and 15 euros and received 256 ram. Quite a bargain. With the detonator drivers (starting 23.xx) and as long as it has 64ram on it it´s cool.

Xotor there´s an awfull little game called Aquanox, that allows to test the card in a very efective way. If you use the slider to increase the use of the video ram, besides not having the pixel shader, it gives geforce3 image and speed quality with just your mx400. I tested them side by side, got impressed. It`s a shame most games don´t use the 64 megs cards at their fullest capacity.

Could you repeat that in bananas because i know how much bananas cost and i have no idea how much an euro is worth.
Sound like you had a good deal but then again are there french euros and italian euros?

I *think* that Euros have a set value across Europe, but I'm not sure about that.
