finding items that was accidentally sold/thrown away...

First time out of the vault
So I bought this Gauss Pistol from a merchant in a special encounter. My build was the 10 agi/fast shot/bonus rate of fire/sniper using a gauss pistol that works so well with fallout 2. This is pretty early in the game so I was estatic and bought the pistol immediately only realizing ammo would be a problem. So I stored the pistol somewhere. 2nd bunker I believe. Now another special encounter a trader i believe so, he sells the ammo. Bought it. Now I can't find the pistol. Im not sure if I accidentally thrown it away or that I sold it or put it on a locker. are there any way i can trace where i put the pistol?

Of course not. FOT was designed according to old RPG logic; you gotta keep your own records. In my latest playthroughs, I was using the SAME 3-6 lockers to store the SAME items, and visiting them between EVERY mission. Yet I kept mixing them up, and forgetting which locker was for ammo, which locker was for explosives, which locker was for nice guns that I didn't have the ammo/stats to use YET, etc etc... It's not the game's job to follow what you do and tell you where you left stuff. You should keep track of your own actions, yourself. If you lost that gun, it's all on you. =/

By the way, how far into the campaign are you that the Gauss Pistol would still be a huge boon? Because, if you're still facing Super Mutants or Beastlords, then... I feel your pain.
