I'll quote the part of the article in which IGN reproduce what Blizzard says and us, hardcore Fallout fans, as glittering gems of hatred that we are, would like to cast upon Bethesda's faces - bold parts by me:
Sol Invictus at Diablofans.com said:IGN Australia has written up a pretty good article on their website entitled "The Ten Commandments of Diablo III" which features ten rules for every fan of the Diablo series to follow. Here are the Ten Commandments, at a glance:
1) Thou Shalt Play From An Isometric Perspective And Love It
2) Thou Shalt Have God-Like Power
3) Thy World Dost Change
4) Thy Avatar Shall Have A Voice
5) Co-Op Is The Natural Order
6) Thou Shall Not Use the C Word
7) Thou Shall Not Be A Degenerate Potion Huffer
8) Exploding Monsters Are Cool
9) Thou Shalt Be Top Of Your Class
10) Thou Shall Live For Loot
Words to live by. Words to die by. Each commandment is listed in great detail, so be sure to check out the rest of the article.

The times they aren't a-changing. Blizzard has always gone its own way, and Diablo III will be no exception, sticking with a traditional overhead isometric perspective. The team, in fact, didn't even consider making the shift to another solution, such as over the shoulder or first-person. That's fine by us -- sticking to this perspective gives players great situational awareness, really shows off the number of enemies that can attack the player at any one time, helps emphasise the scale of the bosses, and also helps the player stay oriented in the world. The isometric perspective also keeps the focus squarely where it should be -- on the action.
Plus, Blizzard's execution, from the overarching visual design, through to the animations and the sound effects, make it feel fresh, giving Diablo III a distinct vibe. The main question that remains is how much control the player will have over the perspective. Will we be able to zoom in on the action as seen in the gameplay demo? We hope so.
