Indie games

Flop

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
Recently I realised that most of the games, I'm looking forward to play, are actually indie games. I guess this is partly because the games I like (some of them anyway), perhaps don't appeal to the majority of gamers, and so the big companies don't produce them, while small indie companies are more willing to take chance and produce niche games. I guess another reason is that, with the growth of digital distribution, indie games are becoming more feasible.

Still, they often don't get their fair share of media spotlight, and they certainly can't afford marketing campaigns on the level of those of the large publishers. For this reason, I often find out about indie games that fit perfectly to tastes, years after they were released, and usually by accident.

Anyway, here are a couple of indie games, the development of which I'm following with anticipation. Feel free to list your own.

Solium Infernum, by Cryptic Comet, the guys who made Armageddon Empires. It's a turn-based strategy game, in which you play a lord of hell, fighting the other lords of hell for satans throne.

Rise of Prussia and Vainglory of Nations, by Ageod. I loved Ageod American Civil War and Birth of America. I tried loving their World War 1, but I'm still waiting for the rest of the legion of bugs to be resolved (crossing my fingers that it'll ever happen). Rise of Prussia is a turnbased wargame, in the style of American Civil War and Birth of America, centered around the seven years' war. Vainglory of Nations seems to be a turnbased Victoria, that is a grand strategy game, taking place in the 19th century.

Age of Decadence and Cyclopean, by Iron Tower Studio. I guess most people here probably know about these already. I'm particularly looking forward to Cyclopean, since I love Lovecraft, but I'll take Age of Decadence too. :)

Gettysburg, by Norb Software (run by a guy named Norbert, I'm guessing). This an american civil war game, based on the Take Command engine, which was co-developed by Norb himself. I love Take Command 2nd Manassas, so I'm really looking forward to this.

Strength & Honour 2, by Magitech. Kind of like Rome: Total War, only with more depth and uglier graphics, I think. Hopefully (and most likely, based on Magitechs previous games), it will also feature an AI that is significantly better that Rome:TW.

Anyway, feel free to post your own list. I'm hoping this will help myself and others to find out about interesting games, they wouldn't have known about otherwise.
