From The Orange Country register:
Interplay Entertainment Corp., an Irvine developer of computer games, is without an accountant, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission on Tuesday.

Squar, Milner, Reehl & Williamson LLP dumped Interplay in March because it was concerned about Interplay's future. There were no financial disagreements in 2002, 2003 or this year, but Squar said in a letter that it couldn't do its job any longer since most of Interplay's employees had quit or were fired beginning last June.

By September, Squar said in a letter, no one was left in the accounting department except for the controller.

Herve Caen, its chief executive, was not available for comment.
Basically, despite no financial disagreements, Squar has come to the conclusion, like so many of us, that Interplay is doomed and have thus dropped them. I personally find it highly surprising and somewhat unlikely that the accountants did not have financial troubles with Interplay.

as long as Interplay still exists, even if it's just barely, then Herve can hang on to the delusion that he was right all along.

it was a good thing to greenlight FO:BoS. it was a good thing to axe Black Isle Studios. every decision he made that doomed Interplay alittle more was good. it was all part of a master plan, and those peons who doubted him were all wrong. who's the big fancy CEO? he is! that means he has to know what he's doing! his detractors are all just clueless hatefull fanatics who don't know how to run a company!

i think that's what he gets out of it. infact, at this point, is there anything else that could be gotten out of it?

I have more than a guess. I know what his problem is. As "jr." surmised, it is corporate arrogance, plain and simple. He wants to inflate his ego even more by single handedly dragging the company back from the brink. In his mind, he does not believe that his actions resulted in the sorry state Interplay is now in. It was Fargo, a down turn in the economy, slacker employees, disinterested market, the rise of MMORPGs, a failure to cook the books, everything under the sun but him.

Anybody who met the man would, and did, instantly see through his thin veneer. Herve rivals Michael Eisner and Paul Pressler in his utter contempt for all those NOT above him. We are the marching morons of society who are nothing more than mindless sheep waiting to be told what to buy and how much we will like it once we bought it. A hallmark of '80s corporate executive thinking. Herve would have done well an Enron, Imclone, and Worldcom - same mentality.

Besides, were else could he go, what else could he do. He is a known crook and swindler with no mind for business. He can't get any investors to open a new company, nor will anybody hire this 3 time loser who bankrupts every company he runs.

Perhaps there is a petrol station in Lyons he could hide away in . . .

Mussolini was captured as he tried to flee to Switzerland in the closing days of WWII. He was found by Italian partisans at Giulino di Mezzegra, near lake Como on 27th April, 1945. The next day, Walter Audisio took custody of Mussolini and shot him with a French MAS 7.65.

His body, and those of his mistress, were hung at an Esso gas station in the Piazzale Loreto in Milan the next day.

I will put away my chalkboard now . . .

Funny, I find it obvious and very likely that the accountants did not have financial troubles with Interplay. They were probably the only ones he paid regularly. Not to mention the sad state of American accounting self-governance.
