My first stab at the mapper/modding in general.

First time out of the vault
Well, not so much at the modding part(reserving this for future use?), as it's only a thing i threw together for me to start modding/scripting on  Have to start somewhere i guess.

I'm gonna link it since the image is rather large(1000*800'ish), but it's basicly my first try at the mapper and what the thingy can do. Hope you enjoy.

To set the scenery i'm planning on it, it's a couple of brothers(or cousins), who took over an old roadside gasstation and now use it to trade various items.

Anyhoo, here's the link, any comments are most welcome.

Not bad at all, really nice work. The brothers are a) the guy in front of the station and b) the guy in the maintenance center, right?

Also, did you make that PEP GAS sign? Looks really nice.

Say what you're up to?

Yeah you got the brothers right, the one infront still(or will) think that the gasstation is operative and does indeed call it "The best darn gasstation this side of...heck anywhere really!"

The other guy isn't that smart either, well, smart'er, but he glorifies their station a bit too much too. Which can be seen from the "maintanance" "station".

The Pep Gas sign is an original, found in the editor files(haven't seen it elsewhere) and it was like a gift on Xmas to find it midwork, kinda nailed the whole scene. I might, when i get the other stuff in place, change the graphics around, make perhaps the Bro Go Gas sign.

What i'm planning on this is basicly an added encounter, just to learn how the editor, scripting and all the other necessary work goes. Basicly it's gonna be a quest(or two if i can make first work) and trading encounter. I'm planning on a lot bigger "mod", basicly a new wasteland game of sorts, based on a game design i have.

Could you share some wisdom with me? I've been mapping the whole day long and being blinded at the end of the day - please tell me what scenery number it is?

I've found only the "Poseidon Gasoline" sign, it looks much like that one.

EDIT: Never mind, found it! Say, are you working alone?

1236 in the scenery.

Took a while to find it myself :D

EDIT: Heh, nice.

Yeah, i'm trying this as a passtime hobby really. Always wanted to get into modding as a leisure hobby between game projects. FInally have some time to do so.

Nice to see people who are still ready to learn and dedicate themselves, even as a hobby, to modding Fallout 2. If you need any, and I mean ANY help, just ask. Also, it'd be good to visit the New Fallout Modding Center (check out my sig), there you can find all you need (help included).

I think, the screen looks good. But the grid for leaving the map is a little bit to near on the house, I think. You should change it and make the map bigger. (with more desert to walk on.)

You can also use pattern for the ground tiles. With this, you can prevent the continuous repetition of one tile image.

Good one, Lexx! Didn't notice the repetitive tiles the first time.

I usually use one of the desert maps when starting from scratch. Also, it's good to copy the first elevation to other two, one can never know when it's gonna be needed.

Yep, I also start with one of the desert maps. It's the easyest way to start.. I think.

Yeah on the issues have to say that;

The repeatative texture is only a problem at the places where you'll never gonna end up, have the same eye for it.

The exit grid isn't an issue yet, shouldn't really even be on that screenie, since its basicly useless at the moment.

The screen is actually a bit bigger, since there's a road there and all, just haven't gotten into that yet(since it's showwise pointless)

Easy is for people who want things fast and probably get bored :D

As far as I can remember, my first map was some smug city. I had made it in TeamX mapper, so later I naturally haven´t opened it in official mapper any more just because of at least million of n00bish mistakes.
