I know it's been out since around 2004, but I just got into it recently and it's awesome! It's more along the lines of an economic simulation of the Hanseatic League, but it's a great game nonetheless.

Anyone played it before? Thoughts?

Never heard of it or even played it. I justed looked it up on wikipedia. Sounds like a very good and fun economics simulation with various elements to winning. I've enjoyed many games like that in the past.

However on the page it says "RTS". Is that a typo? The only games I've seen that have deep economic simulation are turned base. Real time is used for lots of combat to enhance the action and puts economy on the side. Unless this is a one of a kind game...

There's very little combat actual combat. There is someone that can attack your a city where you have workshops and manufactories, but you have no control over any of the troops there. The only real time combat that you control is a "sid meiers Pirates!", and even then your other trading ships continue on in the background.

In truth you can ignore combat completely.
