Recovering a lost NPC in the world map in Fallout 2?

First time out of the vault
So, I was hoarding the loot, and my party was pretty much overloaded with crap I know I wont need (but I just can't help myself). Anyway, in a random encounter spot, I told Cassidy to wait there, traded with him (nice way to bypass the weight restrictions as you all know), and then I kept on travelling through the world map, forgetting to invite him back into the party. He basically had all the guns of my party (I like to divide the NPCs' load by: ammo, weapons, miscellaneous items). And Cassidy being the best shot out of all the NPCs so far, I want to find him, desperately. Is there anyway to get him back? If I cant get all my weapons back, at least get him by resetting his location or something? Or am I completely and utterly screwed?

PS: loading back to a point where I still have him would mean hours of gameplay lost. Damn that comfortable quicksave button
 
If you told him to wait in a random encounter map he will be gone forever. There is no way to get him back.
 
yeah, I thought so... oh well. I think I'll go back to my last save, 5 quests and a million miles before. thanks for the quick (although discouraging) replies. cheers
