I wouldn't give them any money though. Fuck 'em. Censorship shouldn't be rewarded at all. Go 'acquire' them instead. :revolution:

Also I can't use the GOG launcher to download an installer of the old versions of STALKER. The launcher says "server problem".

Do you trust NovaRain?
Let's trust NovaRain.

NovaRain backed up his claim:

Personally, I still would not support them financially at this point, I still cannot download the old versions on GoG as installers only as direct DRM installs and I do not trust them not to silently censor the old versions later on.

I look away for five years and the game which literally defined the term "eurojank" is now completely eradicating it's cultural identity and lore for...god knows what reason obviously. What is this? A government mandate or some shit? I haven't been able to play Stalker 2 but I doubt they did something this stupid with it, right?

I do know the russo-ukraine war has been used as an excuse to completely eradicate anything russian, essentially an excuse to resume the red scare, but it's the removal of the ukranian forces which get me the most. It's just weird.

Like the fuck do you mean they removed all the non-english voices? People have wanted official subtitles for years ffs.

a nu cheeki breeki v damke.

Initially, the game's plot was based on a book by Soviet writers the Strugatsky brothers and a film by Tarkovsky. Thus, Ukrainian game designers are trying to deny what they are derived from. I loled.

I don't know if that's better or worse than the supposed political reason, honestly.

I have the original versions of the three games in my library. I assume i can still play the untouched, uncensored versions.

Edit: 20 fucking bucks for the first game, pfftt ahahahahahahaha. Nah, i will stick with the original versions. If i want better graphics and improvements i can just use mods.

Edit2: They mispelled Chernobyl on Steam, it says Chornobyl.

But all this made me want to replay the three games, haven't played them in ages. Of course playing the original versions.

I just hope this retroactive bullshit doesn't catch on, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s vibe was truly unmatched for a long time, and I sincerely hope most people who get into it after this, do so with the knowledge of this remaster being butchered. Without all the environmental storytelling, the game just loses part of it's identity. Like, it takes the mythology of chernobyl, and turns it into generic post-apocalypse, and I have to ask, for what? What the fuck will people play it for, if chernobyl is not chernobyl?

I find no good reason for it, and I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a studio like this. Was GSC bought out? That's usually how tone deaf stuff like this happens, the only other explanation is that the original devs somehow lost their fucking minds, along with their creative integrity, or they are dealing with some kind of mandate involving russian iconography...which would not explain the alteration to ukranian stuff.
