Avernum: Escape From The Pit, December 14, 2011 (Remake of a prior game).
Developed by Spiderweb Software.
Available on PC and Mac.
Available on GOG, Steam.
Avernum: Escape from the Pit throws you - literally - into the land of Avernum, a cave complex separated from the surface world by magic and isolation. Sentenced to Avernum by the Empire, you navigate a realm beset by dangers - and hopes - on all sides.
Pros: Classical style party making, combat, and exploration. A lot of lore, a good or acceptable story.
Cons: No music, sounds are sparse. Load up a RPG mix on your phone or so. Content is sort of bare, I think I got 50 hours of it, but the world feels a bit empty and funneled. Though, of course, you're in a glorified cave system. And your party can be totally messed up at the end if you don't have x class or so for the end, especially for the Emperor's Ending.
