Throretical Situation: You get to make FO:BOS

Psyckosama

First time out of the vault
Lets rewind the clock. durting the first days of BOS's development, chuckie while eating chinese food impails himself through the nose with a chopstick, ramming it into his brain, and dieing a comical death. Interplay, desprate to release this lump, turns to you to direct and control the project. What do you do? You still have to make the game a Fallout universe action title and it must be finished. How do you do it?

Personally I'd make every member of the team play both of the original fallouts. Then I aquire copies of Max Payne, Dues Ex, Vice City, and both Metal Gear Solid games as an example of how to take an action game and give it a plot.

As nothing is original, I'd rip off Max Payne's combat system, use a special based experence system like Dues Ex, take ideas for levelless semi-liniar game play form Vice City, and how to make a game a kick ass cinamatic experence from Metal Gear, then I'd try and make it work.

playing the original games is a big plus, I would talk with the fan base a lot, make the story line follow the first two., I like the part about vic city like go anywhere do anything, thats a plus for an action game, even more for one based on RPGS.

Doing Fallout like Vice City would be kind of strange; Vice City is a big bustling metropolis while the largest city in Fallout was The Hub. Kinda pales in comparison, doesn't it?

For an action game, Fallout BOS looks about right to me. Its not trying to be a roleplaying game, its an action game with roleplaying "elements."

Though the part about Deus Ex.... That was an action game with roleplaying elements. That could be interesting to see in a Fallout universe, though the idea of a Fallout FPS/RPG hybrid would probably be just as poorly recieved as BOS is.

Whatever you do, as long as its a Fallout game that isn't Fallout 3, the hard-hardcore fans aren't going to like it which way or another, so really it doesn't matter how they do BOS.

I was thinking one continuous map. No "levels" you just keep walking. If need be, at least for building interiors, a Soul Reaver like sceme could be used where you get close then the interior map auto loads while you do other things.

Sorry, that is not the problem.

Depends really. It was theoretically possible to beat Dues Ex without firing a shot. You just had to be REALLY good.

AS a hardcore fan who's considered the Fallout and Fallout 2 to be the best games ever made since 1997 I can safely say: hell no.

The problem with POS is the fact that it has nothing to do with the Fallout universe. The project manager hasn't even played the original games. If it was true to the series I would not be able to wait to play it.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel is the Starship Trooper movie in comparison to the Starship Troopers book.

Personally, I have no problem with using sex to sell, the fallout two did it with the chucke value of all the whores. I don't even have a problem with 'thong-girl'.

In fect I think they should have more people in S&M gear. If done right it would be a perfect Road Warrior reference... not that I give Chuckie that much faith.

I'm not sure how they'd do a continuous map, but I agree, that would be really, really cool. But I don't think the Playstation 2 or X-Box would have enough power to run it...

....Hehe.... Yeah, Mad Max sure had its share of leather-wearing wierdos. I think they said it was actually a reference to 50's pin-up Betty Paige, though.

PS1 had enough power to run the Soul Reaver's rather huge enviroment as a (mostly) loadless continuous map and PS2 has enough power for Vice City bloody huge map (although there are some load screens), so I think an intelligent programing team could do SOMETHING cool.

I would bet that raider group started as a bunch of rejects from a BDS&M club...

Right... and I'm the Pope.
