I helped them, they thanked me by kicking me out and telling me to never return, asses.
When I eventually encountered the random Vault 101 inhabitant exploring the wasteland for supplies she was being attacked by a giant radscorpion. I let that hoe die, they hurt my feelings:(

God, this quest sucks. The only reason I went back to complete it was to get the medicine bobblehead that I missed and the achievement. Anyways, I convinced the overseer to open the vault and I was rewarded by being kicked out. Obviously I went back and gave everyone a friendly plasma bolt to the head. Except for Andy. God bless his metal shell.

  3. I wanted to solve it peacefully, so I went to the overseer and was atacked by a guard, so I killed him. This made the overseer hostile, so I was left with one choice.
    HEADSHOT!

I agree. I mean, think about it, people. You have a bunch of people who've been locked up in a vault their whole lives. It's the only life they've ever known. Then the vault's medic decides to do a runner and make his grand escape, but he leaves his mongrel kid behind. What are people supposed to think? That this kid's loyaties aren't for their dad? For all the rest of the vault dwellers know, the kid may've helped their dad escape! They can't be trusted! So the kid's branded as a traitor of the vault. We all know what happens between the time the lone wanderer escapes, then returns. But people haven't forgotten how the shit hit the fan after the kid and their dad left. So, of course they still resent the kid! And they certainly don't trust them, either. That kid tried to escape before? How do the vault dwellers know he/she won't do it again? The only logical course of action from that point would be to outcast the lone wanderer and ban them from ever returning.

I think the quest has nice design and premise. If more endings with more gravity were included, it would have been perfect.

First runthrough, I killed everything not essential, then blew up the pump to celebrate the fact that I suddenly knew how to use power armour.

They tried to hard to pay some homage to Fallout 1. Why can't I help them and get a room to be my home away from home?

You can if you're playing on a PC. Go to the Nexus and download a mod titled Vault 101 Revisited. About 30 game days after "Trouble on the Homefront", you are met in Megaton or Tenpenny Tower (whichever you live in) by someone from the vault and are asked to help out with new problems. This mod assumes, of course, that you didn't ruin the vault on your last visit. You actually get your old room back. This is a very well made mod.

Thanks for that, RichWizard! I must download that and try it out later. Regardless of whether or not the original storyline makes any sense, one does get homesick for the vault. ;)

The story of Vault 101 Revisited fits very nicely into FO3. With Amata in charge, the vault opens up and they start trying to connect with the other inhabitants of the DC wasteland. That leads to a few problems that the vault needs help with. Also, they've heard Three Dog's radio news reports about the Lone Wanderer's exploits and have had second thoughts about kicking him or her out. This is a perfect followup to the lame "You have to leave" ending of Trouble on the Homefront.

Looks like a capital mod, Unfortuantely, I am a 360 user so I can only do limited modding :(

I sided with Amata by killing the old overseer, PAYBACK TIME!
