?what am I doing wrong?

I have Gamespy Arcade, I have 1.27 of FOT, I have a Cable modem, FOT does run most of the time with out even crashing. But heres where it goes wrong, When I try to host or join a FOT game through Gamespy arcade it will load to a black screen and lock my computer up. I was told by one helpful fellow (THE ONLY HELPFUL ONE THERE THAT NIGHT) that its my router causing FOT to lock-up on me like that. Now my cable modem is setup through a USB port, which plugs into the modem, and in turn the cable modem plugs into my cable line. As far as I know I have no router on my end of the local cable network. And my cable company is not helping me in anyway. What do I do?

Okay I know I need to free up ports, TCP Client 47624 Outbound, Host 47624 Inbound , TCP 2300-2400 Inbound And Outbound and UDP Connections: 2300-2400. right okay I know that now.
has just telling the provider what I need, damn router crap. this game could have been better with a client/sever model multiplayer setup.
