3rd-Party FIXT weapons/armor patch V0.1 September 15, 2013

It Wandered In From the Wastes
This download is a package of PRO files that modify weapons, armor and NPC armor values.

Since in Fallout 1, ammunition modifiers (AP, FMJ, JHP) don't work, I have undertaken a small project to counter-act this problem.

I have given the ammunition's role to the Weapon Perks. The details are in the mod's ReadMe.

Version 0.1 features a few changes along with a vastly improved ReadMe file so it looks less like scribbled notes and more like proper documentation.

Installation requires copying the Proto folder into your Fallout Data folder so DO make sure to back-up your original files beforehand.

3rd-party FIXT weapons patch V0.1

For those who have downloaded the patch and tried it, I'd like to hear your comments.

Also, as the topic title indicates, I'm working on a new batch of files based on Sduibek's version 6.1. This is mostly as a precaution in case the files from the old 5.3 build create some kind of conflict.

This is a head-up to confirm that my update is complete and the files are ready to download (again).

The files have all been taken from FIXT 6.1 and changed again so there shouldn't be any major problems relating to FIXT versions.

dedejo001,

could you please upload your files to another host? Gamefront's idiotic policy restrict access to their server to half the world.

I am in Sweden and, like many other countries, am not allowed to download files from them.

Which hosts do you usually download from?

So...how much of an epic fail is my patch? :)
I would love to tell you it's a huge failure. :D

But I can't.

I don't want to install it until the current round of FIXT testing is done.

No offense. I think it's a great idea.

Why after the testing round?

Just curious.

I don't want to compromise the testing process.
With the latest news about the mod I've just heard, That may have become a moot point...

Unless someone takes over and keeps making patches for FIXT Fallout 1.

Don't wait for the next release of FIXT to playtest something, because we don't know when that will be :P

Not to mention I have yet to get any feedback from the others who did download my patch.

Hell, I'm not even getting getting told my patch is a complete POS (Not that it is, mind you :P ).

Heh. I haven't tested it myself yet. Don't kill me! :hide:

I'm mostly doing homework and housework today (changing out all the wall outlets, woo!) and in terms of FIXT I have a thing I'm working on with Nevill, but, during the coming week I should be able to play around with this and see what I think.

You're familiar with Fallout Revisited, right? You should check that out and see how yours compares.

One thing I've always thought was cool -- that I would never personally play -- were mods that make AC for all armors 0. (So they don't make you harder to hit, just harder to hurt)

Yeah, you better cower...Nah, you're cool. :)

As for Fallout Revisited, as far as I can tell, it's not quite the same goal as me. He goes for a different game style while I fix a broken feature in Fallout's basic gameplay.

As for armor...

Personally, I don't mind AC. The problem is when you mix it with damage reduction systems. Damage reductions make sense when you want to simulate objects with a constant shape, like a box, a wall, a rock, etc.

However, it makes less sense when applied to armor because such protection doesn't cover the entire body equally (which makes sense because the wearer needs to move around!). In spite of its blatant simplicity, AC makes more sense because it takes weaknesses in the armor and the wearer's own movements into account. Technically, the game should have offered different AC values for different weapon types.

I would disagree with the previous suggestions; Google Drive sucks but Mediafire is OK. Personally I'd suggest Dropbox.

I would use Mediafire for FIXT but can't due to size limit restrictions, so for smaller files like this I suggest:

1st - Gamefront
Mirror1 - Dropbox
Mirror2 - Mediafire.

The reason for that is Dropbox can do direct linking, so no CAPTCHA, waiting for download or any of that bullshit. Actually all things considered, Dropbox is strictly superior to all the hosts mentioned in this thread.
