Adam Sessler bitches about people bitching about games

Games are not only toys games are culture. There's high culture and low culture. There's too much low nowadays...

Decent point? There's a point to be made in whining about people who have opinions? Let's all waive flags and smile!

There is nothing like the dichotomy you present. Everything is culture, be it a fucking Pikachu or Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

Who the fuck cares what adam sessler says anyway? All those G4 hosts are so lame, I can't watch them for more than 10 seconds.

my problem with games is quality in gameplay.

far too many of them have poor gameplay that just doesnt sit well with me to be enjoyable. now quite a bit its pre-concieved notions about what the game is that ruins it. oblivious is totally ruined for me because it was marketed as a RPG and i expected a RPG. fable on the other hand was marketed as a RPG and i expected an Action game due to hearing details about it way after pc release. M&M Dark Messiah i hadnt heard anything about, i bought it because it was M&M and not heros so i thought RPG and it would rock ( as long as its not like 9 ) and it sucked for me because i expected a RPG and it was an action game.

perception means a lot, and so does gameplay.

What dichotomy? It was xdarkyrex who said that games are just toys.

:P Thats because they are.

Their purpose is to entertain and amuse.

Perhaps on some occasions they could have a political or philosophical ideology attached, and are also construed as art, but they are ALL created for entertainment.

It seems to me that critics are more the victims of hype than casual gamers are.

That being said, I think he was referring to the fact that there is not HIGH or LOW culture, and you seem to have missed his point.

Strangely enough, yes.
Thats why in art school they teach how to appropriately criticize things in a constructive way.

There is such a thing as a stupid opinion, fyi ;)

How exactly is that relevant to his point?

When I want just entertainment, I get it for free or for 14 bucks.

If games aren't entertainment to you, then what IS it?

O_o

And if they don;t entertain you (assuming that's what you mean), then why do you care about them?

I said "just entertainment", not that I'm not seeking entertainment in more expensive and ambitious games.

I find this entertaining.
It;'s significantly simpler than just about any game ever made for a modern console.

Why should a platformer or FPS be any less fun?

Not trying to discredit your opinion or anything, I just honestly don't get it.
Just because something is below your expectations doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed.

I don't find it entertaining because I prefer when other people suffer. Especially if they live in Africa.

So? There are various types of entertainment that have different qualities that make them desirable. For example I desire a decent tabletop-style RPG with good mechanics, beautiful 2D graphics that will run on my computer and explores the condition of being human.

I don't want to play action-RPGs with consolitis, because I can have simple RPG entertainment for free.

I'm not going to spend cash on every fucking game that comes out.
I have a lot of things to spend my cash and time on, like black metal music, games that are actually worth playing, comics, novels, movies and I'm already short on cash.

Oh, yeah, money.

:P

Dude just get one of those gamefly things, or borrow shit from friends.

I don;t even OWN a console but I still manage to play just about every game out there that isnt a racing/sports game.

:D If you apply that concept to all of your life, you must be a really miserable human being.

...

You don't say?

...

No but really, there's nothing important to be said about people who have complaints on the products that they take interest in. If you can't deal with someone criticising something you like (a certain product, company, or just the market in whole), whining about it only makes you look like a fool.

And no, it's not for my information.

I guess being optimistic and finding reasons to enjoy things isn't for everyone.

At the end of the day, I say my two cents about what I didn't like about a game... but I also never let that stop me from enjoying it on its own merit. The two must be logically separated when criticizing something, otherwise you end up being a victim of hype.

I thought that was what he was trying to get at.

*edit*

I hope I'm not coming across as too adversarial, that's not really my goal

Clearly you've missed the many times in which people have said things like,

"I think it will be a good game on its own, but not a good Fallout game."

I mean, seriously, what is your rationale for this argument? Your views are too far-sided and too assumptional. People can be critical of something. Simple as that. Doesn't mean they're downvoters. So again, what is your rationale? That people can be critical of something and still enjoy it? Well, you don't say? The G4 guy is just whining. There's no point in complaining about people who are critical of products they may or may not intend to buy, y'know, with their money, that they, y'know, worked for.

So, back to what I said earlier. Just waive flags and smile!
