Ardent's Fallout 2 Mod - Announcement

Ardent

A Smooth-Skin
Modder
Hello, everybody!

The time has come to announce the mod I have been working on for almost a year now. Since I'm doing it mostly solo, it's called simply Ardent's Fallout 2 Mod.

It is a total conversion mod, so it contains a new storyline, new NPCs, new towns, etc. The action takes place a few years after the events of Fallout 2 in the today's states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

You start out as a bartender in a bar called "Vault 13" (hence the outfit), in a boring little town of Duston. Soon enough you're sent on a special mission which will unleash a whole series of events. As is the theme of the majority of Fallout games, the plot will revolve around the basic resources that every human being needs.

I did my best to recapture the feeling of the original games. Thus, the quests offer multiple solutions for different types of characters, the NPCs react to your actions and the decisions you make have consequences which open and close certain doors. Since it's a Fallout 2 mod, there are also pop-culture references and dark humour.
There are also some new elements. I put more stress on unarmed and melee fighting. I intend to reintroduce the food system (but it's not in the demo). I also introduced a new character path - the scientist. You can now solve most quests using scientific skills such as science, repair, doctor, etc.

Check out some screenshots here.

You can also play a demo of the mod, which is available here or here. Absolutely read the readme for credits, installation instructions and other notices!

The demo is only a demo, so take it easy with some things, such as the worldmap, the cutscenes, etc. Only three locations are completed for this build. The dumb path is not available yet, so don't play a dumb character. To cut a long story short, this is still work in progress.

--------------------------

Should you encounter any bugs in the demo, please post them in this thread. All other remarks, impressions, etc. also go here.
Thank you in advance!

Hahaha, holy hell! This is "Damn Pole!" situation Mark II. This is very obviously also the first time in 2009 when golden "more work, less talk" rule has been kept.

You did dialogues, maps, scripting and art on your own, Ardent? It'd be quite remarkable because it looks classy at sight. Or Contie has been mysteriously involved?

Cool retro city as a town art - why on earth this has been "discovered" as late as 2009?

I hope to have a time to check out the demo. I like surprises...

Thanks for all the good words, Mr Lizard :-)

Indeed, I did all scripting, dialogue writing, mapping on my own. As to art, mine are only the ugliest pieces, the better ones are by my brother or Brother_Soifran. I also downloaded some stuff from the Custom Art Repository.

Hope you'll enjoy the demo!

Looks good Ardent. One thing i notice especially is your excellent written English. Some of the dialogue/floats in your screenies made me chuckle :D

Good luck man, and please make use of all the new artwork ;)

I kinda wish I had my Fallout 2 cd with me... Looking good Ardent! Kind of hyped now.

P.S. Love your M. C. -avatar :p

Thanks again! I did my best :) Still, I've been taught mostly British English and it looks kinda weird in NW USA, so I guess that one day I'll have to consult all of my dialogue with some native speakers.

Indeed, less talking, more working. This is something you don't see much nowdays.

Hehe, that's nice! but where did you get the building FRM's ?

Uhh... which building frms? You mean the regular walls that are available or the big whiteish building? Well, the former I found included in the mapper (obviously) and the latter was made by Brother_Soifran especially for this mod (a big thanks to him!).

I've downloaded the mod files and first thing I saw was that you should check out this thread. In my opinion, every Fallout 2 mod creator should do the folder structure in this way, because it's very simple and easy to overwatch. :)

Thanks, Lexx!

Your installation method is great! I wonder why I overlooked this thread before.

I'll change the file structure along your lines and update the download page at the first opportunity.

Yeah, it was already on the second page and would be gone soon, so I've placed a link now in my signature for more propaganda. :P

again, you should write this method also in the FON board. ;)

btw. really funny that nobody figured it out earlier.

Bacause it is very easy and logical. very nice and acurate nethod to plugin several mods to falout.

Ardent I play the mod. I need to tell, that it is very good. I like Fallout Shelter, and the thing happened there after entering ;)
Howver I have a problem with copying card quest. And I cant play, because I do not know how to enter to room with workbench :(

Thanks for feedback :) And now to troubleshooting (two language versions, because it's a bit lame to talk a foreign language when you have your own. Still, I don't want people who don't speak Polish to feel neglected).

PL:

EN:
1. Steal the card from the guard, using Tranquilizers beforehand.
2. Go to the bottom right corner of the production hall. There's a big loading door there. Watch out! Before the door is a photoelectric cell!
3. Disable the photoelectric cell using Repair (be careful not to cross the cell's line of sight), or if you have very good Agility (9 or 10), you might try to sneak past it.
4. If your Repair is low, and your Agility, insufficient, try talking to some NPCs. There's somebody who has a multitool, which will boost your Repair sufficiently.
5. Walk out the door. Be careful and try not to get caught.
6. Find a wooden door, which will be the only door to which you'll have an easy access.
7. Inside is the workbench. Use it, or use the card on it.
