Bands similar to Godsmack

Duckman

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I'm looking for bands similar to Godsmack at the moment, but what I seem to be getting is stuff that I have heard before. Alice in Chains is apparently Sully Erna's (lead singer of Godsmack) favourite band, and I do like some of their music, but it isn't exactly a band that is similar to Godsmack.

I guess you could insert any generic metal band [here], but I am looking for something that you guys enjoy that is similar to Godsmack's semi-grunge heavy metal. I really don't want to listen to screaming (or death metal for that matter) as I just can't stand it.

Anywho, these are my favourite Godsmack tracks:

Vampires

Re-Align (Wait for the solo :) )

I would recommend the melvins, since they're actually a good band.

LOL. Melvins. Last time i saw them, they opened for tool and tryed there best to piss off the crowd. Love them though. So I guess since i said it, Tool. Also.

Mastodon
Neurosis
Mr.Bungle
Strapping Young Lad
The Dillinger Escape Plan

*edit*

Or you can just do what I do and get angry and listen to...

No intelligence required for slayer time....

Strapping Young Lad?
After him saying he hates death metal?

lol, what a poor suggestion.

Hold on while I dredge up some band names-

(edit this in a minute)

Opeth
36 Crazy Fists
A Perfect Circle
Agalloch
Agathodaimon
All That Remains
Hopesfall
Ambeon
Andrew W K
Andromeda
Anima
Apocalyptica
Arch Enemy
Armsbendback
Clutch
Auditory Aphasia
Avenged Sevenfold

I also endorse all of Dopemines suggestions.

I would list more, but thats already too much.
:/
I just went through my collection, hit me up on aim if you want more.

Opeth? Similar to Godsmack? Oh my.

Maybe their new releases (i didn't even bother with listening to them), but from "Damnation" down (actually, Damnation is not even metal ;D) it could hardly be considered grunge-influenced "metal".

And Arch Enemy has "screams" which Duckman said he'd like to avoid. :P

Hm. You could check Foreign Objects (now known as CKY) out. They're hardly metal, but so is Godsmack, so meh.

Not really, but I think anyone who appreciates Godsmack should probably appreciate at least some of their songs.

As for Arch Enemy, they have plenty of lovable instrumentals.

I'm not endorsing all songs by these bands.
Just a select few.
He can get a hold of me if he wants to know specifics.

Plenty? Not more than two short, clear instrumental tracks per CD, as far as i know. And half or more of them are ballads.

On that note, he might as well check everything out from Gaythenburgh scene, Dark Tranquillity, At the Gates, In Flames, Gates of Ishtar, Eternal Oath, etc

Maybe even newer Dissection.

I'm not really sure it's what's he's looking for, this kind of music is not grunge influenced, it's basically heavy-metal riffing with the occasional thrash barrage and death/black metal vocals.

Duckman, the following bands are similar to Godsmack in the sense that the music is more hard-rock inspired metal with relatively clean vocals, which is what I think you mean:

Soil (meh)
Brand New Sin (Excellent)
Black Label Society (what can I say?)
Black Stone Cherry (A bit softer, but good southern rock with a tinge of metal all the same)
Down (Awesome)
Corrosion Of Conformity (Sludgy Southern metal from the New Orleans Louisiana scene)
Crowbar (Similar to COC, also from New Orleans)

That's all I can think of right now.

Oh, also check out Scissorfight

And let me emphasize Avenged Sevenfold again, since its probably more up your alley

i like "Godsmack - Changes" & "Godsmack - Awake" a lot.

not exactly similar, but: Machine Head, Drowning Pool, Disturbed, Fear Factory, Creed (lol)

You know what, that's exactly what I mean. Thanks to everyone's response, I have a lot of music I have never bothered to check.

Shit, considering I see almost everything that bands produce these days (work at a printing place for all musical artists), I have seen most of these bands, and never had a thought of checking them out.

Thanks again people! :D

One thing you learn while getting heavily into music, "or any other artform". is that your not going to find another band alike to one your listening too and enjoy, unless that alike band is ripping off the first band. So if you don't like raspy vocals, try to find a band that has raspy vocals, and makes up for it in some other area, or does it in a way thats more tolerable to you. Same can be implied for polyrythmic drummers and stoner "Distorto" guitars. But the bands everyone mentioned here are basically the creme ala crop, so trying to invest into them, rather than expect them to be "Totally awezom dude!" will yield some fantastic results...

Weeee...........

*edit* Oh and btw, In flames used to be good.... before the year 2000....

Used to be.....

AND STRAPPING YOUNG LAD IS NEVER A POOR SUGGESTION! EVER! EVEN IF THE SUGGESTION IS ILLRELEVANT! Now behold the ugliest band ever to exist!!!!!!!
