bigger "transparency bubble" around the player

klaus

First time out of the vault
hi all,

i was wondering if it was possible to make the "transparency bubble" bigger ?
you know, when the player is near a wall, there is a transparent sphere around the player allowing you to see the character behind that wall. when i'm exploring areas, looking for things to scavenge, or to spot hidden stuffs, i find that i'm often feeling that this "transparency bubble" is too small in diameter, i would like it to be bigger so i could see better what is surrounding the player..

so:
- is there already a known way to do that ?
- if not, would it be technically possible for a mod to perform such a thing ?
- or it is a lost cause and nothing would be able to affect the size of that transparency bubble no matter what ?

thanks

what i meant was that bubble doesn't let us see enough, the space is constrained and i have to move step by step to be able to properly look at what's around me.
for example, i enter some tent, and i have to walk step by step around its edges to confirm there's no chest, or box, item, whatever hidden beyond what the small bubble allow me to see.
normaly, if i'd enter a tent, a quick glance in one shot should allow me to see everything in there. idealy i should not have to walk along the tent edges to confirm what's actualy in there. so..bubble is too small to see comfortably what is around me.

so that means noone found a way to tweak it yet ?
was there some attempts at making it ?

both are kind of 'meh to me, compared to original fallouts.
beside i was not asking for other games like fallout,
i was inquiring about the possibility to tweak a specific aspect of the game.
if newyork was the target (to reply on point to the question) you did hit miami instead.
'safe to say there was some kind of offset here. you might want to tune your aiming ;)

btw, nice to see a fellow buddhist around, salutations to you.

Total —uneducated— guess:
  • It would require alteration and recompilation of the source (which nobody has),
or a diabolical assembly patch to the executable.
  • It —might— be possible to implement this in the replacement ddraw.dll,
but if so, I think this would have already been done by now.

@Gizmojunk
thanks for the clear, on point, answer.
that's what i was affraid it would be. too bad.
ok back to 'walking step by step around walls edges'.
maybe someday opensource reimplementation of engine gets to a usable state.
i'm gonna rage punch some geckos to vent off the discontentment meanwhile. they had it coming anyway.

I know what you were asking for. I am telling you it is not gonna happen because modding for these old games (mechanically like that) is a waste of time. Sorry you did not like Atom or UnderRail.

it seems to me that russian folks have a different way to create atmosphere, to convey the sense of despair.
when i played the metro exodus , which should have been great in theory, in practice i wasn't able to have a good time with it. it's similar on atom rpg. it seems to me that when situation gets desesperate, russians will make some joke about it. and for them maybe it kind of build and add on to construct the general mood of gloom and despair. for them.
but, for me, those jokes kind of break the mood. i think it's some sort of cultural difference on about how people react to adversity. and how they tell stories too. from my point of view fallout succeed better in creating and telling the story of a post apocalyptic world. there's tons of jokes in fallout too, but they are different.

for example, if a man get shot and loose an arm, russians might say:
"don't worry i'll make you a prosthetic replacement with tincans and some bolts, it's gonna be as good as new".
whereas in fallout it might make jokes with over emphasing on the pain, the gore details or how this will end as a crippling handicap for everyday life.
so humor on both sides, but i prefer the fallout style.

I honestly just like Atom RPG better because it plays better. I am finding myself caring less and less about writing as I get older. Usually the best writing is still just average tier.

or You can install and configure fo2tweaks (the highlighting part) if You don't like cheats you can disable the rest but i think the Highlighting feature is a huge PITA saver especially that it can highlight most mines, entrable manholes, stairs in classic fallout games, and only containers that actually have something get highlighted, stuff on the ground highlights as well. the default sfall highlighting mod should be replaced with the fo2tweaks one asap.

that might be another angle. highlighting all items would compensate a bit for lack of visibility, when items are located behind a wall. i'll try this too, thank you for the advice.
