Fallout 2 mod BIS Mapper error initializing video

jacksnapes21

First time out of the vault
hey friend, nice to meet you,

I just played playing with Mod Fallout 2, after searching on Google and I got BIS Mapper, it's really cool!, because I can edit the map myself like GECK for FoNV / 3 or Creation kit for Fo4 ... after I download and settings, critter_dat =c:\GOG\Fallout2\ critter.dat etc ...
I'm having a problem, I get a popup error "error initializing video mode 640x480" I don't know
and I searched Google again, but I got people who were having problems"error initializing video when opening games". but my Fallout 2 game really works.
they say the settings in f2_res_Config, but my BIS Mapper can't work

I use Windows 10 Home.

help please.. :(

Thanks for fast respon friend, but still not work :( ,

I've patched, well, it's still the same error...I really do not understand my computer ... my PC is like refusing to run a classic application, and.. I gave up making a map.. so I'm now interested in making/editing sprites for Fallout 2... this is cool too :D thanks for help

Hey, this reply may be a couple of months late, but I am currently running Windows 10 and faced the same exact problem too. However, I was able to resolve the issue. Here is what I did :

1) After patching mapper2.exe, right click mapper2.exe
2) select properties
3) go to the Compatibility tab
4) You should see 'settings'
5) tick the box 'Reduced color mode'
6) tick the box 'Run in 640x480 screen resolution'

That fixed the issue for me.

I feel like I'm having a similar problem...

The mapper opens up to what looks like a completely black screen on my Windows 10. I can see the red hex until I move the mouse, then the hex disappears and the mapper camera spot moves to the farthest bottom right corner or edge. It appears like I lose mouse control, but keyboard control still works so I can exit the mapper by pressing escape. This problem does not appear on my windows 7 install (which I copied directly to my windows 10 laptop (including required game folder)).

When I adjust the program resolution lower than my desktop by a couple of settings the mapper finally shows up, but it seems to run sluggishly. It takes up about 20% of my cpu usage, while my windows 7 pc uses 13% (harhar I get it but no really it does).

I've tried other compatibility settings with no success.
Does anybody know if there's a simple setting I can change, besides resolution, to fix this?

EDIT:
As a side question, does anybody know if the mapper can be set to windowed mode?

thanks for the link!

Was this also on the github and I missed it?
And is it possible to pre-package this with the mapper?

TBH you can already package sfallM with the mapper and release it as some "definitive edition" of the mapper all you want.
It's not like you'll get C&D or DMCA letter because of that, as long as you're not selling it.

--ok I've figured out the problem for the mapper my Win10 laptop, hopefully it's the same for you:

--The "Change the size of text..." scaling option is affecting the mapper display somehow and borking it if it's too high. I changed it back to 100% from 125% (my default because the laptop screen is tiny for it's 1080p resolution), and the mapper worked fine!
