Building a PC

Looking for some advice for my brother. He's a graphic designer and is trying to build himself a good PC for doing photoshop work, etc. He said that after doing some research he built a PC for about $1100 but that seemed expensive to me. I know you can build a decent gaming rig for about $800 so I was surprised, knowing that in a work machine you don't need a crazy video card, that the cost would be over $1k.

Anybody here have a decent build for a good work / photoshop computer that can be built for under $1000?

I should mention that we are in Canada so shipping is a consideration. That particular computer is out of stock on newegg.ca.

Thanks for the lead though!

You can run the most demanding games on the highest settings (or close to) on that computer, so yes it definitely overkill if he is only going to use it for Photoshop :)

I find it amazing how cheap you can buy a quality system like that in the US.

Id say depends on how good monitor/s he will be needing, if he hasnt got one/those yet. Does he need scanners, pen tablets etc ?

if he is a serious artist, he need to make sure he tracks down and orders a CRT.

they are getting harder to find but they are still made for uses where lcd/led wont work.
