First time out of the vault

I just finished the steam version of fallout 3
I just found out that I have to get the expansions through the piece of mutant dung which is called "Games For Windows Live" as for some reason the discs are "incompatible"
with the steam version.
Has anyone had any experience with making steam version work with the disc versions of the addons? Or is this stupid corporate stuff so I buy off GFWL?
As you can extract the .esm and other files from the GFWL folders and put them into main fallout 3 /data folder (meaning GFWL doesn't need to be running), would it be possible to do the same with the discs if they refuse to install into the steam version?
I know there's lots like me who don't want to go through the hassle of Windows Live, so any help would be appreciated!![Very Happy :D :D](/../../xencustomimages/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
