New thread new roleplay. Mikey and I will co-manage.

I will try to start the new zombie roleplay after this gets started. Any interested co-managers, let me know.

    The story-

You wake up to a world that has been virtually emptied of human beings. Your friends, family, loved ones, co-workers- everyone is gone.

For every 500,000 people, one person remains, or roughtly 10,000 people on the planet. What happened to everyone else, is unknown. It is as if they suddently got up and went elsewhere leaving you behind.

Your story is about meeting each other and finding out what happened. To the best of your knowledge, there was no war, no virus, no alien invasion. Nothing. Yet somewhere there lies a clue.

I will start the first post probably in a week or so. We will use this week to sort out.

First question- what city would you like to begin with? Options include New York or London but we can accept other choices. for now I'd like characters to stay together.

This is not a shoot-em-up, although there will be some of that and there will be "others" that you will have to deal with. At present its' all a bit experiemental.

Your characters should not be super-hero survivors of the apocalpyse. Rather they should be just people you'd normally see. You can choose up to three characters, as some will probably be killed off pretty quick. I suggest that you play them as normal folks. Taxicab drivers, postal clerks, bartenders, waitresses, office workers, school teachers, civil servants.

When posting your characters, you need not give stats, but rather rely on a discription. Post your character here.

    A couple things I ask-

    (1) characters should normal folks. My three are a 41 year old black woman, a 27 year old asian pharmacist and a 33 year old mailman.

    (2) you should strive for realism although the story will probably get very strange.

    (3) When posting your characters discuss what their lives are about, what they do, who they did it with and also what they have regular nightmares about. For example the blackwoman has dreams of dead son, nightmares about her ex-husband as well as nightmares of demons that live in tunnels beneath the city.

    (4) Ethnicities matter. If you play 2 characters, one has to be of a different ethnicty than you. If you play three, two must be of different ethnicities than you.

Equipment etc- you start off where you sleep, where you might normally sleep. Start from there.

Can we play ourselves as characters? Granted, I'd be a bit more "attached" as a character to myself than an rp character, but it would be fun to consider how *I* would react in the situation.

Second question: Is there any pattern to those left behind, and are they concentrated in any particular area? If there are only 10k people or so left, even 5 getting together is rather suprsing if the reaminders of humanity were disspersed randomly.

Third question: What time period is this? Tomorrow? Five years from now? Are there any lead-ups to the event?

Welsh did you hack my computer and steal elements from my novel for this RP?

    ditto.

    ditto again

Also, does this take place on earth, or a copy cat planet that is shockingly similar, but just different enough to further the mystery? (and of course account for vauge differences or things that contradict normal history etc)

This is going to be set in our world. It is as completely normal as our own world, bar the fact that there is a huge drop in population. I would think it would be set in around this time, as well, to make it more real-ish.

Oh, and can we have some feed-back about which city to have it in? I'm all for London, but I don't think Welsh is so sure. :D

Cleveland? What the fuck is in Cleveland? :)

Yes, the time period is tomorrow.

Patterns- Ok here are some oddities-

People are more likely to find themselves in population centers. If you live out in the middle of nowhere, you might take a long time to find the next person- but you can start there if you like.

My temptation is to start this is a densely populated, but geographically dense place- thus New York- mostly an island- works well. London is also fairly dense. But yes, that issue has been undecided. London could make an excellent choice- lots' of immigrants and travelers, many ethnicities, center of transportation, and with a fairly decent city center.

Characters- can be you. But it need not be. I suggest that you play up to three characters but they should all be different.

Other things being equal- more asians than you'd think- even in places were Asians are a minority. Ethnicities- Indians, Africans, Latins- more than whites.

The world is essentially that outside your door.

Beginning the game should be consistent.
I suggest the following- Each person wakes up at noon. Prior to waking up, each person has a dream.

Also, most of the animals are still there, at least as far as you can tell.

There is also something else, exactly what... I won't tell you.

Exactly why or how to get out of it? That's the point of this roleplay.

Any specifics on this dream, or am I going to dream of a pixelated version of me as a video game character 8) and call it a prophecy?

Possible. In making your characters I would like you to raise this issue and what you dream about depends on what you want to post about.

London or New York are both great locations. I would incline more towards London for the “European feel”, the Victorian age architecture and the weather: the London fog at night could make a fantastic atmosphere.

I have a sketched idea for my principal character: a male Arabian artist. He would be in London or New York trying to start a career, seeing that these places are world artistic centers. His motifs would be the recent war in Iraq and all the racial statements.

One question: The characters we create have to be connected to each other? What would be preferable?

    Karkow-

The character is fine. As for character connections- None that you can identify.

Your characters should have no recollection of ever meeting each other before nor any reason for thinking there is a relationship.

Rather, that's part of the story to figure out.

    Ok, nice.

Will there be any rule like on "Down in Mexico" wehre all writting must be in third person? Because I'm thinking of a rather singular way to write...

Hey Fireblade, Nice character. But if you are to have multiple characters I would ask that they be of different ethnicities. Alternatively you caould change this one around as well- but that's up to you.

could you give us a bit more info on the state in which we find the world?

is it neutronbomb-like (aka everything intact, just no one home)
or zombieworld-like (everything is still there, but everything is torn up & messy)
    or PA-like (destroyed buildings,...)

The world is pretty much as you would find it if you woke up tomorrow and find it empty. Or like you found it when you woke up today- except minus people.

Ok, we need to decide on a local and I want to post up by next week.

This is the introduction of my character and probably my first post on the thread once it opens, if everything is okay with it.

I'm assuming the local will be London, but if not the post can easily be changed.

What has happened to the world?

My name is Khaliq. I am 25 years old and I was born in Iraq.

I decided to write this diary for two reasons:

1st: in case I die perhaps there would be a chance of someone reading this and could gain a better notion of what happened.
2nd: and foremost: to not go insane. I need to gather my thoughts, start to think clearly and just talk about what’s going on my mind… what better way to do it when you’re alone in the whole world then to write about them?

For two years I’ve been living in London. I came here in search of a place were I could develop my artistic skills, since that’s what I am: an artist.
I discovered this vocation since youth. Rather then playing with the other children in the fields I would stare at the sky, at the horizon, in awe by the shapes and colors. Soon I would fall in love with the canvas. My first one was given to me by my mother: A kind and generous woman who lived tormented by fear that my father would die. His death tore her from the inside. She also died... 4 years ago…by grief.
My father I had rarely seen before the day of his death. He was part of the republican guard. He died on the Golf War.
I didn’t take much interest in political affairs, to tell the truth. I was more preoccupied in expressing emotions trough colours and shapes and forms. But after my father died, that would change. I started to be obsessed by death and war (still to this day there are times I can’t sleep thinking about it) and my canvas represented that. Although I had to be careful about my art since the government didn’t really appreciated it, so the time I spent in Iraq was low on artistic production, but after my mother died I had nothing else to hold me to that place, So I’ve left.
I decided about London since I knew this was a good place for me to grow as an artist, being an artistic World centre. France was excluded since I really didn’t knew the language. I would’ve go for New York but unfortunately after the fall of the twin towers I thought that it wouldn’t be a good time for an Arab to go to America.
Unfortunately things haven’t been so smooth in London even. I can feel the looks, the distrust, the racial questions… and I’ve been channelling it all to my art. I rented a small apartment – a studio, just enough to eat, sleep and work. I have been leaving here for now. it's becoming my home.
Paradoxically, the war has been working both ways for me: it has made me a target of suspicion from everyone else but it has, as well, boosted the interest of the general public in my work: I’ve been invited to several expositions and my paintings have been bought at generous prices.

I was starting to establish my life in London when it happened.

It is still strange for me to think about it. I remember the first few hours distinctly: I woke up and everything seemed normal, only a little too quit for normal metropolitan London.
I took a bath, made breakfast and turned on the TV. Strangely there was nothing on it, only a black screen emitted a long and annoying «tuuuuuuuuu» sound. Every channel the same, the only change was that some showed static and the «tuuuuuuuuu» sound had been replaced for a «shssssssssssss»
Believing the antenna was out, I went to talk to the janitor of the building but he didn’t answer the door. I though I could come back later, so I went outside to buy the newspaper.

That’s when I saw it: The streets were empty. Absolutely empty! Not a car being driven, nor any person walking. No one.
I started walking, peeking up the pace as my shock grew higher and higher… No one. I saw no one! I started screaming, knocking on every door, ringing every bell for nothing: no answer! After 2 hours of running and screaming I fell to my knees and started crying…

Could we’ve entered third world war while I was asleep? Perhaps someone pushed a big red button? Perhaps a virus was released in the air? If so, why was I alive? I couldn’t answer myself.

I walked and walked whiteout seeing anyone, but I did saw a dog and two cats! There was still animal life around: just not any humans other then myself.

I am not a religious person, but can this be some-sort of apocalypse? How can I be the only person left?
Perhaps I'm dead. That can be it… I might have died. If so, what kind of after-life is this? And why do I hear my heart still beat? And why do I still hurt when I fall down?

Afraid, thinking that this could only be a dream and I had to wake up sooner or later, I returned to my apartment and stayed in here up until this time, waiting to 'wake up'. Only now I’ve had the courage to truly think about what had happened and put everything in writing.
And now I know what I must do. I am still alive, I am. I have to keep it that way so I can find out what has happened: and that means going outside again.

    Scared and Alone on this Empty World;
    Khaliq

He placed his diary and his ballpoint pen in his backpack, opened the door of his apartment and left.
