How do you guys think the first two Fallout games compared?

Personally, I’ve been playing the originals again and I like F2 better, but Fallout 1 has a grittier atmosphere. What do you all think?

Fallout 1 is better in my opinion. The writing is way more solid than 2, which I think suffers from the poor sense of humor infused in the game. Maybe I just didn't find it that funny, though.

Yeah F1 was better written, but F2 was more fun. In Fallout 1, there were only like...12 locations, and 5 of them were dungeons.

Fallout 1 has a better story but it is short. Fallout 2 is long but the story is filled with goofy shit that is hit or miss. I usually play 2 anyway because you can play it longer.

From an analytical perspective Fallout is a better game, but I tend to find myself having more fun when playing Fallout 2 despite its numerous flaws.

Fallout1 shortness is accualy an advantage. cRGP are all about builds and ment to be replayable. I have beaten the game with the mage, ok let try ranger this time and see is it any different. In case of Fallout1 I tried Gifted build, Skilled Build, Speech and Barter Build, .223 pistol and Combat Shotgun and lots of other. In fact I have an idea of another run using only 10mm pistol just to see is it even possible.

Fallout2 is too long to do that. You are overpowered by midgame and there aren't that many quests to try different builds.

I love Fallout1. It is perfect and well written. I like Fallout2. It has an interesting background story and some locations are pure gems but lategame is just boring.
    Overall F1 > F2.

Fallout is the superior RPG, snd better in most ways.

Fallout 2 has the improved UI, which makes for a massive improvement, and it has overall more you can do due to the fact that they were able to reuse enough assets to focus on other things.

Plus Fallout 2 lets you keep going after you finish, thats a major game changer, Ive hit level 99 before due to that.

Fallout 1 is better imo. The writing and setting is tighter, the shorter gameplay is perfect in a time-strapped world. It just oozes the post-apocalypse, and really immerses me into the world a way Fallout 2 doesn't.

The fact that travel on the overhead map is noticeably faster than Fallout 2 helps.

I like that in Fallout 1, there are seemingly 3 stages instead of just 2. And the best part is you can complete each stage in any order you want to. The Fallout 1 formula was "You have a small goal, okay now you have a big goal, now an equally big goal. Replay and do these in any order if you want." now it's "You have a small goal, now you have a big goal. This is the order you must do it in, in every playthrough.". I like how compact Fallout 1 feels, there's only a few locations, almost every location is tied together somehow, and it seems like everything you do has a weird feeling where you did something big but not really.

However, I like Fallout 2's story and writing. Not that I dislike Fallout 1's, Fallout 1's antagonist was the best in the series. It's just I like the idea that you're apart of something way bigger than yourself, plus each of the new factions in Fallout 2 are really cool. And though not each location is tied together, each location feels unique and meaningful, even Modoc which is a completely optional location in every type of playthrough. I also think the companions in Fallout 2 are way better than in 1, each has a more thorough backstory and personality.

In the end, I like Fallout 2 more than Fallout 1, but not by a lot. The main reason being: In Fallout 2, you can become a porn lord.
