Er, yes, obviously everyone tries to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Which leads to a million games all competing for the same market segment, with lucrative niche segments being completely neglected. Obviously the fact that it sells well makes it a more enjoyable game, I mean really. And the fact that the franchise continues is obviously worth it even though the franchise looks nothing like the original games, right? Also, first-person view and real-time combat, and even FPS RPGs existed well before Fallout 1 did it. There's nothing new there.
