Fallout 3 upgrade original to GOTY?

First time out of the vault
I played through the original release of FO3. On my last visit to EB, I noticed FO3 GOTY with all the DLC included, so I snapped it up.

Do I need to uninstall and reinstall the game from scratch, or can I just install the DLCs on top of my original install?

Will I be able to use my existing savegames & character with the DLC?

I imagined I'd be able to play with the new disk, and gift the original disk to a friend, who is interested in the game.

I got the GOTY Edition. If memory serves, the main game is on the first disc and the DLC's are on the 2nd disc. Provided you have the main game installed with the latest patches, you should just be able to load the DLC's on the 2nd disc and go on playing. They are designed to be installed at any point in gameplay.
