Archive contain 30 female+ one male portrait, I hope you enjoy:grin:, fell free to use.

Stick in core\gui\char, then extract the files male.txt, female.txt etc from the Bos files(Entities_0.bos) to core\tables and then add the file name of your zar to the bottom of the list and it'll show up when you create a new character.

Good job, but I hope the game support more bigger portraits.

    Nice pack!

@diablo7707 Sadly no :( that part is hard coded, i wish we could use animated portraits like GIFs make them idle.

I also would like to contribute to this forum post. :)

These are the default Fallout New Vegas hairs, it's so players can find a face and choose the hair.

I will release a pack when i have at least 10 portraits, this one will not be included because it's a WIP/test and well... he's ugly! ;) And he has no body! :surprised:

    Test in game:

    EDIT:

This is a little more like it.

Well I gathered some rosources in post-apocaliptic style, so the 4 volume should be more useful.

Er...I'd really love to use these packs, but I'm far from technologically savvy, and I'm having trouble understanding your instructions in the first post D: I don't see any "gui" folder in the core folder, and the only "char" folder I see is in the user folder. Plus, I was given no option to extract anything from the .rar, so I don't know what to do.

Can anyone help me figure this out?

Ah, never mind, I just downloaded a patch and got a "gui" folder in core. The only folder inside is "font," though...

In Core folder find qui_0.bos copy and then change extention from *.bos to *.rar(if you using winrar like me). Now you have file copy gui_0.rar( or somthing similar ) right click and chose extract here , you have gui folder ready to adding portraits, remember in core you must have folder gui not gui_0.

Or *.zip Windows natively XP and up natively supports zip archives, and renaming the file extension and double-clicking the file [in this particular case] will open the file as a regular folder in Windows explorer.
(Rename it back to *.bos when finished with it.)

** BTW: The ability to rename file extensions is turned off by default in most versions of Windows OS. To enable it, you must turn it on in the Explorer Folder options.

Thanks guys, I'll try to figure this out with the new instructions :o I'll edit this comment when I have a status update

EDIT - Already reached my first hurdle...I have no idea how to change the extension of a file to turn it into a different format. I guess winrar does that? D:

Alright, wonderful! I used winRAR, converted my copy of gui_0 to a .rar, and now I have it extracted into a folder...Now, I'm a little lost :c

EDIT - I need to use Entities_0.bos for something?...Hmm...I can't seem to create a folder with it, like I could with gui_0. I converted it to a .rar, just like gui_0, but when I try to Extract Here, it just creates another Entities_0.bos file :(

EDIT 2 - Wait a second...I think I'm on to something...I think I have it extracted, now :D Whew, this is practically an adventure, for me. This is the single most complicated thing I've ever done with my computer @_@

Yeesh...If this is what PC gamers have to go through every single time they want to add a mod to a game, I'll stick with the base experience, in the future. Still, I've come this far. Here's where I'm at, so far...

I have both the gui_0 and Entities_0 files extracted into folders, and...That's about it. :(

"Stick in core\gui\char, then extract the files male.txt, female.txt etc from the Bos files(Entities_0.bos) to core\tables and then add the file name of your zar to the bottom of the list and it'll show up when you create a new character."

This...I'm completely stuck on this @_@ I don't understand it, at all...I've found the male.txt and female.txt files in Entities_0, but I have no idea where to go, from here :(

Okay, so, I've extracted the first volume of .zars into the char folder of gui_0, and edited the male.txt and female.txt files in the tables folder of entities_0, so...I convert the files back to .bos, and it shoulder work? :o I can't believe I've gotten this far, heh heh

EDIT - And, now I have no idea how to convert things back once I've extracted them :( Sorry for spamming up your thread, dude, but I'm really trying to figure this out...Like I said, I'm far from knowledgeable about how to work a computer, and I desperately need help for this kind of stuff

Renaming a file does not change its format. Conceptually what is going on, is that the Tactics resource file is a compressed ZIP archive that contains the game resources. The developers renamed the extension (which really is just the last three characters of the file name). Once renamed, Windows doesn't know what it is ~because it doesn't know the bos file extension. When you rename it to .zip, then WinRAR, and even the recent versions of Windows itself recognize what to do with it when double-clicked. Windows XP and above, natively support handling ZIP files. If you rename the *.bos file to *.zip, you can just click to open/edit it; you don't even need Winrar for that.

To edit the files you first have to change an option in the Windows Folder Options; you must disable the option to 'hide known file extensions'. This makes it possible to see the file extension in the first place, and possible rename it. Note: It also becomes possible to rename other files, and if you are not careful, you can overwrite the filename and extension, and Windows won't know what type of file it is until you rename it again with the correct extension. If this sounds complicated, just plan on restoring the 'hide known file extensions' option when you are finished editing the game files.

    Thanks for the response! :o

As far as I can tell, though, I've edited everything that needs to be edited, and added the new .zars from the picture pack to where they need to be. I just need to, somehow, convert the extracted archive/folder/whatever back into the original form it was in, the single .bos file. I have no idea how to do that with winRAR, though...

Or am I not understanding? This is incredibly complicated, for me :'(

...I've probably messed this up ;_; Should I just delete everything and try to begin again? I practically need step-by-step hand-holding with this kind of stuff D:

EDIT - *sigh* I give up...This is way, way, way too complicated for me to handle. I need step-by-step help with this kind of thing, in the plainest English imaginable...Who would've thought a simple picture pack would be so incredibly difficult to put in? O.o I'll stop spamming up the thread, sorry. If anyone has a heart of gold and wants to help me try again from step one, please PM me :(

Try from scratch. (I hope you are working on copies of the files ~not the originals... else you might have to reinstall the game if it gets messed up.)

Rename the .bos file to .zip, then double click the file; it should open just like a folder in Windows Explorer. You can drag & drop your replacement files into the folder, and when you are done, close the folder window, and rename the .zip file back to .bos

(Windows treats the renamed file ~a zip archive~ like a folder with files in it.)

I was working with copies, yeah X) Give me a second, I'm trying to get into this Windows Folder Options thing that you mentioned, but I'm having trouble finding it

EDIT - I use Vista, so apparently, it's more difficult to figure out...
