Fallout Zero: Screenshots and Story

    Here are some screenshots and a bit of background story for Fallout Zero.
    I welcome any feedback or ideas for this new mod.

    It is just getting started, so it will be a while. However, I plan to release the mod in chapters, so the first playable portion should be available in a few months. When a new chapter is complete, a new area will appear on the world map, and one of the NPC conversations will get you on your way.

    Can I be an expert lizard excrement expeditor? or do the robots do that?

    One of the best Ideas for a mod and best looking ive seen in a while.

    comparing Fallout 1 modding with fallout 2 modding is like comparing a tax form with a 6th grade math worksheet

    Its still frikken hard though

    Since none of the original maps will be used, its not really an FO2 mod, its a total conversion using the FO2 engine. You surely want the "push" button and NPC combat control from FO2 engine, and the FO1 world map stuff is hardcoded in the engine. It would make no sense to use the FO1 engine for a total conversion.

    I considered porting FO1 to the FO2 engine and adding missing stuff like the other gangs (vipers etc), but I wanted to create some brand new content. I actually have FO1 vault 13 area running in FO2 engine as an experiment.

    I like the idea of having branches. I know that coding for them is sometimes a huge pain, but it does increase the replay value. Match branching with FO's inherent replay value and you have something very nice.

    edit: PS. I am impressed with your screen shots and am looking forward to the first chapter!

    Outstanding scripting idea, it's good to see someone today take some effort into environmental behaviors for creature "character". Well, outside of Harvest Moon and games like that.

    For a very brief demo, just to see these lizards, drop this PATCH000.DAT into your Fallout2 directory, start a new game, take a premade character, and wander over to the lizard pen. You cannot release the rats yet or do much else but the lizards do appear to have some real behavior.

    It's about the German Mod, that's called "Fallout Zero" scince 2002.
    This mod is still in work; the demo is a mod to fallout 2 and the latest version is prduced with FIFE (www.fifengine.de).

    Maybe this guys are not be amused of hearing that you are using the same name. I'll tell them of this issue and you can talk about it.

    It's okay, I will pick a different name. My first mod idea was to be named desolation, but there is a mud called that. Its difficult to choose good post apocalyptic names that aren't already used somewhere! Thanks for the heads up.

    Whatever happened to the Fallout 'XP' mod? (or whatever it was called...the one with random items in shops and random loot?)

    Actually, I have been doing ARM system-on-chip embedded hardware and software, but if I do that 24/7 my head might do ANIM_exploded_to_nothing :D Trying to find some balance here ....
