Fallout2.exe Patcher

There are problems when chaging maps... I set the game in 1600x1200 (and btw it look perfectly fine on a 22" screen, perhaps 2048x1536 should be added? :P).

Simply take the default character and start a new game; then go into the temple, and the whole map is gone.

Great work!
There is a bug when I enter inside the Vault 15 or Broken Hills (in all versions of a patch). All screen became a black one and when I try to move a mouse (or Chosen One) a trace of it movement appears and remains on the screen.
Sorry for my English :?

thats the main fatal flaw with different resolutions right now. All you can do with the higher resolutions is just look at stuff

Version 3a: Added support for versions...
US 1.02d (works)
UK 1.03e (untested)
GR 1.02d (untested)
FR 1.02d (untested)

these executables are from the patches: f2patch.exe, f2patch-uk.exe, f2patch-gr.exe, f2patch-fr.exe. Does anyone know where I could find the other versions' executables?

I'm thinking that the reason it fails on some maps is because the viewpoint in the new resolution is "over" the edge of the map and as such the game simply fails to render at all (hence nothing is rendered and the trailing effect, since the character is still rendered, but no map is rendered behind him and the game never clears the background since it should render tiles/scenery instead).

Another interesting thing to do would be to try and impliment the new resolutions in mapper2 so we could create maps easyer, specially for that resolution.

If I'm right about the viewpoint issue, perhaps people could make mods which never have this problem simply by setting up maps properly; although it would be hard to fix it in the normal game.

The big5 version is very different than the other fallout2 versions. It will take a longer time to make a patch for the big5 version.

Hey jdoe, I'm just wondering (sorry if it sounds like a novice question), but would it be possible to use the same method for Fallout1?

I realize that there might be even more bugs than Fallout 2.

Thanks,
Dark Legacy

I'm not too sure, but I think the fallout 1 executable is quite similar to fallout 2's. All that would probably need to be done to make it work with the fallout2 patcher is finding out all the offsets again.

As for the patcher, Im taking a break from it for a week or two - I just got back from spring break and I kind of started working on another project for a while. If anyone wants the list of offsets for Ollydbg ( with the LabelMaster plugin ), it's http://jdoe407.com/fallout2.txt . these are not the offsets for the hex editors and some of the comments may be wrong because i mixed some of the comments from the patched exe with the unpatched exe. I tried to remove them all, but just in case a few of them are still in there, just ignore them

Well thanks for all of your groundbreaking work jdoe. Since you released the Fallout2patcher source I'm sure either myself or a group of people will find the offsets in Fallout1 and create a fallout1 patcher.

Thanks again, Jdoe. You have changed the world of Fallout.

I've been playing around with the createwin and addbutton script commands. Since we have extra space on either side of the interface in high resolution mode, it might be possible to add some new interface controls.

For example, it would be nice to have a button that tells your entire party to wait where they are or rejoin. It might even be possible to have buttons that would change the combat settings for party members like "attack nearest" and "stay close to me" or "charge". Ever seen cassidy go charging towards muties with miniguns? Would be nice to click a button that gets him charging back towards you. I'm not sure if these commands can be triggered within a script but I'll try to find out.

Another similar idea, on one side of the the interface there could be a slot for a pipboy add-on module. For example, a medical scanner pops into that slot, and it might show more detailed information than the awareness command.

The latest version of the patcher is great. Fallout 2 looks and runs beautifully at 800x600. Movies and some other stuff aren't centered, but everything else is pretty much perfect as far as I can tell.

the updated patchData.ini is here. All it does is fixes the crash when accessing the custom settings on your party members in the American version (the only one affected by this crash).

Right now I'm trying to get the backgounds on the non-talking head character dialogs to display correctly. I'm also working on getting the big5 version that was posted in the "Fallout Modding/Hacking & Project Announcements" section compatable with this patcher

thanks for the support

Thanks odin

I think this will be the end of the small updates since the popular versions should be supported now. It would be great if someone could test out the other versions (FR, GR, UK, BIG5) and see if the patch actually works or if it just crashes when you try and start the game. All this patch does is adds support for the version of BIG5 that was posted, and it centers the credits screen because all it took was one change to do

Version 3c
US 1.02d (works)
UK 1.03e (untested)
GR 1.02d (untested)
FR 1.02d (untested)
Big5 1.02d (works)

Thank you VERY much for this mod, jdoe407, it's really great (and thanks to the others who made it possible). I'm among those who come back to the Fallout universe from time to time to test a new concept character, to relive some cool situations or just to enjoy (and die in) the wasteland. I'll definitly use this for the next time. Or for Wasteland Merc 2 when they finish it.

Cool.

Good stuff, i just got a 17' lcd monitor yesterday and it really sux if I dont use this patch. Thx man
