Hi all!

My name is Sebastian of the Wastes and I’m the Public Relations Director for Fan Made Fallout (FMF), a fan based mod for the original Fallout games.

I’m writing today to tell you all a little more about our project (for those of you who aren’t familiar with it) and to tell you a bit more about where we are in our development process.

First off, if you haven’t heard about us before, have a look at our site at:

We’ve been around for about 6 years now working on the project off and on. 6 years sounds like a long time, doesn’t it? Well, to be honest, it is. But you have to remember that this is a project being created by fans for fans and the team contains members all over the world working in separate locations. We can’t just all get together in a office somewhere and have meetings in person! But there are tools and we do use them to communicate with each other.

That being said, we have done a lot over the past 6 years and all of us are very happy with the work we’ve done so far. Now it’s time to get this puppy off the ground and show the fan community just how committed we are to getting this game done. Over the Christmas season we’ve “gotten the band back together” so to speak and we’ve mapped out a strategy we hope will get us across the finish line.

And part of this strategy is why we’re here today.

Without the fans of these great Interplay games we wouldn’t be here. We need you! No, we’re not looking to recruit you (though we’re always looking for talented individuals to give us a hand), we just would like your support to help us finish this game. And it’s really easy to do that!

Stop on by the website and say hello once in awhile. Register a free forum account and let us know who you are. Yes, right now the public area on our site IS pretty Spartan, but we’ll be working on that as well, making the area more inviting and providing more content for you to enjoy. But you have to start somewhere, and we feel it starts with you, the fans.

I'll move it, if for no other reason because if the gist of the post was "we have a site wooo" and not "we do modding stuff", it would be vatted instead.
 
Well, someone DID beat me to it ... we do currently have an "It's Done when It's Done" policy to the public, but then again, it's been that way since we started! lol

IN truth, the last 6 years haven't been wasted. We're very near the completion of our demo. Take that as you will ... since while we do have dates in our heads of when we're going to be done that, we don't have a public date set yet.

However, we would be very happy if we could have a demo in the hands of fallout fans by the summer (or at least before Christmas!) Bah, we'll be done when it's done :P

Wasn't it supposed to be "demo at Christmas or bust"?
 
Yeah .. we're updating that :)

We found that the silcone impants we were using didn't hold up through Christmas so we got a new plastic surgeon. So far he seems to be pretty good with a knife ...

Which is why we really shouldn't have gotten anyone's hopes up by mentioning Christmas. I can assure you though, we are working hard to get this ship to sail!
 
Any news updates planned for your website?

I think monthly news updates covering the progress of the last weeks would be fantastic :-)
 
Thanks for the suggestion and we are aware of the unfortunate stagnation of the main page. We're in the process of updating our site and getting some new information up there for you all to see.

We're working with out site owner to get a new bi-weekly or monthly update schedule for that page. Either I'll be updating it or the project leader will be. But update it we shall!

Mythbusters great show :)any way FMF is only mod its not like you doing everything from begining writing new engine and stuff...
 
Correct, we are modding the original engine for FO2.

However, we have written a brand new fallout story with all new locations to explore. We will also have some new perks, items, weapons and of course Characters. That's the main reason it's taken so long to get the project off the ground and into fan's hands.

Aside from the engine, we had to create everything from scratch. We had to write all new dialog for every character (nothing is imported from the orginal games). It's a pretty major undertaking.

The owner of our site is also the project creator, who is away at the moment and unavailable to change the main splash page. We should have a new page soon and then regular project updates after that.
