I auto-invited all previous competitors (and Twinkie already registered before I posted this thread). Twink and DB are back on NMA on probation. Call it a Fantasy Football pardon.

The big question is: live draft or auto-draft? I've had good experiences with live draft, and even if you can't manage being present, you can keep on auto-draft to replace you during live draft. It'll put you at a bit of a disadvantage tho. I personally love live draft, but it might be hard to schedule.

Not a big fan of autodraft, but you gotta play the hand you're dealt best you can.
Fucking bot drafted Turner, Barber and Jacobs my first 3 picks last year, all RBs, two of them 'By committee" runners. Wicked retahded.

I think Live Draft is best by a longshot

Is this with individual defensive players or team defenses?

I actually like the former as it just adds more of a dynamic, stats are the same but adding .5 point for a solo tackle or something.

Team DEF. We tried IDPs the first year and I like it in a few other leagues, but we generally don't have enough participation to have IDPs make sense, especially since Yahoo!'s draft order doesn't know shit about them so some teams who don't pay attention to em get stuck with non-players.

Makes sense, it really is only good in very active/ money leagues.

I was going to demand live draft so I'm glad we're going for it. I really didn't like my line-up last year and feel like the autodraft killed my enthusiasm. Worst case, we can make it a time that's mildly awkward for everyone but not terrible.

And I'm for Team DEF too. I just don't know enough about defenses beyond the top 5 and feel like I would just be swinging blindly in the picks.

We'll probably hold it between week 3 and 4 of the preseason, and probably on a Saturday, at an early hour in the US/late afternoon in the EU, unless anyone has better suggestions.

IDPs are an even worse numbers racket than FF in general, since in no way do the stats reflect quality of play. You generally want MLBs and safeties who do a lot of mop up works for shitty teams whose offense can't stay on the field. The greatest defensive players (Jared Allen, Darelle Revis, that type) don't even hit the top-50 IDP scoring list.
 
early Sat (any Sat) is perfect for me. man, even with Charles Woodson my IDP was a kick in the nuts to me last year...but i still like it, i do. i'm fine without it tho.
 
Like last year, I will join if you need me to get up to 12 players. Otherwise I will just pop in from time to time and ridicule you.

Live draft is much better than auto-draft as long as most everyone can be present for it.

It goes without saying that you should all be praying you get to 12 teams so your efforts are not doomed to failure at the hands of whatever powerhouse I field. :P
 
We're at 7 now. If UniversalWolf joins we'd be at 8.
