A dumb solution to a dumb problem :)

Just a stupid incident that happened to me in Fallout 2, thought you might find it entertaining. It's caused by the UK version's removed children.

In Modoc, the tanner asked me to rescue his son, and lets Laddie the dog join me to find him.

In the Ghost Farm underground town, Laddie runs to the boy - who isn't there. Since I cannot talk to the invisible kid, he cannot be rescued. Laddie sticks with me and follows me everywhere.

Okay, then I go to Redding, and decide to help the sheriff out. When it's time to find out who cut up the whore, it turns out I cannot talk to the bartender because she hates dogs (leaving Laddie outside the bar and closing the door won't help).

The solution? I let Laddie come to the bar, cold-bloodedly clobbered him to death, and then talked to the bartender. She didn't seem to mind. Not at all.

Like, eh. :)

Luckily I have an old (patched 1.02) savegame in which I still haven't flogged Laddie. I could install the children patch and the US patch, and then try again.

The 1.02 patch invalidated the savegames, but I hope this is not the case with the children/US patch. Anyone have any idea?

No, it doesn't invalidate savegames at all, but you can encounter weird bugs if you forget to install the US patch.
