ACK! help someone pls :D

some of you may reme,ber me from my problems with smiley a long long time ago, thats about the time i formatted and didnt bother reinstalling fallout 2

now im back onto it, and i saved smiley (hurrah!)
but now im having another problem lol
I just got the quest to get the book off derek in the Den
problem is, i try to talk to derek and i get the normal text above head thing

ive had problems with other quests in the den too, but have gotten around them aftert multiple times (being attacked for no reason, always the problem)
does it have anything to do with Sulik on my team or what?
heeelp? :)

good news, work around the problem
you dont need to talk to derek, he just cr*ps on about nothing..
just find the book and give it to rebecca, no clues where it is though!

The book is somewhere on the east side of the Den where Mom's diner is. I say somewhere because it is always in a different place. About the people attacking you for no reason. This is not a bug. Those people are junkies and they sometimes get an urge so to speak. If they do it just kill them.

Don not go to the east side before you get the task. Otherwsie you can not find the book!
I have tried many times, its always true

The book may in the washroom ,upper part of the map, or on the floor just in front of the church.

well between the time i posted and you replied id figured it out
i didnt like ppl attacking me cos the battles took too long so i always loaded previous game (saved alot in the den) eventually got a chance to talk to derek, after doing every other quest he finally said something, so i went and grabbed the book

just now im getting my REAL citizenship papers for vault city hehehe

btw i do have the patch
and i already knew where the book could be
