Implants?

ive been reading some on implants and i hear some of them make ur CH go down one... um are they worth it anyway? and how and where would i go about getting them and which should i get

There are two implants, dermal (general protection) and phoenix (fire protection), and an upgrade to each. The implant doesn't ulgy you up, the upgrade does.

You'll find info about the implants in a medical database. You'll need to pretty knowledgable in advance medicine to make sense of the information. Once you find out "how" the procedure works, you'll need to find a doctor. (It's pretty tricky to perform the operation on yourself when you're anesthetized). I'd get both types. And upgrade them before going to fight the Enclave. It's basically over once you defeat the Enclave, so it doesn't matter how ugly you are then.

Some additional (and vital) tips to add...
Whether you're playing the patched version or not, be sure to get your implants at the Vault City courtyard doctor. Even if you have the patch, there are several "issues" with the implants, most notably that if you get an implant at VC courtyard and then take the level 2 implant at San Fransisco or any other place, you will lose your money and charisma - but you won't get any bonus from the implant! So taking the first two operations will only cost you money, but each level 2 operation will decrease your charisma by 1. I usually get the Charisma module and use it in SF and then get a level 2 dermal upgrade, so you basically won't lose any of your initial CH.

To be more precise (I don't know if the idea was NOT to be precise), you can learn about the upgrades from a medical computer in the Vault City vault. If you haven't already, boost your doctor-skill a bit or you won't understand the text.

Just for laughs, you can get the implants BEFORE fixing the Autodoc. I did this a few times, just to see the animation. Save before you do though. When you're ready to continue with the game, fix the autodoc and get your implants.
