luck affect dialouge options?

i made a char with 10 IN and 10 CH and 2 LK, but im not getting all the speech options i should be getting with even less IN. like i cant ask about the guys spear in arroyo to get it sharpened, and i cant talk to Balthaus about his missing son johnny in Modoc.

oh, and i have a really high speech.

RE: luck affect dialouge options?

You need high perception to get the option about the spear. Otherwise your character will just miss it. Also, many dialogue options require high doctor and science skills too.

Whether Balthas asks you to find Jonny depends on your reputation in Modoc. As you see there are many more things than IN and CH that decide which dialogue paths are available.

What reputation you end up with in Modoc depends strongly on in which order you do things there. For instance, if you start out by releasing Bess and killing the Deathclaw, they won't like you *even* if you then go on to save their asses in the Slag affair. On the other hand, if you do the Slag quests first, they won't mind so much if you then do the naughty bits. Reputation seems to work (rather realistically) in the way that first impressions count and that a bastard who does a good deed still can't be trusted much, but a good guy who screws up will get a second chance.

As regards Balthas, I quote from my still unofficial walkthrough: "The leatherworker Balthas is missing his kid, but he'll only tell you this if your standing in Modoc is Neutral or better."

If you are Neutral, then I'm afraid I don't know what the problem is.
