Try looking at some of his other posts before you make that decision.

Well, he's wrong about that, it *could* be caused by the mod. Not necessarily though. That's why he posted in the FO2 forum, it's not at all obvious that it was a problem caused by the mod.

He only thinks that, nobody can be sure yet.

Well I meant on this thread... I haven't read any other posts.

RE: Odd happenings...

Thank you, Mr. Testes.

Look, I really wish I could prove this to you, but because the save files are too big I can't upload it. So I can't prove it. And since when did I tell someone to shut up? If you're talking about the character names post, then goddamn man, have a sense of humour about yourself.
You seem to be looking for an excuse to kick me out, aren't you? This isn't really going anywhere. It can't be proved, or disproved. It's just a bug. Put yourself in my spot, you wouldn't like some guy trying to shout down what you knew to be right simply because of mere chance and errors of a computer. So if you don't want to believe it, then fine by me.

Mods? In Fallout 2 the items, critters, misc. and so forth are individual files, and if changed in size will instantly crash Fallout. So changing a weapon would have a miniscule chance of altering anything else. Okay, I accept the possibility, however small, but I really doubt that the mod was responsible. And it isn't a really neat trick, it's a severe cock-up.
I also checked with TMS, and they agree with me on the matter. And how many times must I say it, it ISN'T an item! It's a kind of script or something, I think. Michael Vasey is certain that it isn't supposed to be there. I think that the game is confused by the different layout of the file. Hence, the ever-changing values. I never said it wasn't a bug, either. And the reason I was vague is because I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHY IT HAPPENED!

Well, a little long-winded maybe, but I hope that
cleared up some matters.

RE: Odd happenings...

Zip the damn save file and upload the zip file. You've just given us the next step of the bullshit sequence: "I can't give you proof because..." or "Here's your proof" but it doesn't work. We saw the same thing with BOS Steel Knight. I try to be open minded, but I've got the dangerous combination of experience and a pretty low oppinion of human nature (partialy from personal experience). And you do need to learn a little respect for your elders and administrators. Direct quote: "Now you don't have to act as such an asshole just to show everyone you're the Almighty Admin. Settle down." Roshambo's doing his job, and he and Shadowman and the rest have done a damn good job for as long as I've been around. Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, but try to be civil.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Oct-28-00 AT 05:08AM (GMT)[p]Is there any way I can upload my RAR self-extractor without it being changed to a zip?

If so, I CAN PUT IT UP.

Yes. File extensions are common sense and not like you're coding interlaced .pm's. If you upload it as a .RAR, it should be a .RAR.

And for all intents and purposes, I'm not letting you upload it to this site.

Word to the wise, this smells like complete bullshit. Honestly. The fact that it's a self-extracting archive when you first where complaining about file size...? WTF? Self-extracters ADD to the file size. And then, no thanks for the self-extracter, because those are highly untrusted because there is a little bit of risk involved with them.

Heh, I'm not going to try to explain. Just go to http://www.geocities.com/heidrunnthegreat/Slot03.zip to download the thing. THEN hopefully you'll be swayed. Unzip it to data\savegame\slot03 and make sure there's no save there.

Okay, to change the values, exit the current map. That should do it. But If it doesn't, try going to another town. That's it.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Oct-28-00 AT 06:10AM (GMT)[p]Ok, I'm uploading it again, last time it screwed up, it's supposed to be nigh on 1 MB.

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Oct-28-00 AT 06:50AM (GMT)[p]There! Finally.

Try that, with any luck it will work.

RE: *sigh*

Right click, and select "Save target as..."
I got the file, haven't gotten the chance to test it yet though.

RE: *sigh*

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Oct-28-00 AT 05:21PM (GMT)[p]Downloaded it, extracted it, replaced my slot03 with it, loaded the game up, and it caused a kernel error in windows. I'm also getting errors when trying to open this up into F2Ie. This will not load, tried converting into patched and unpatched, that didn't work. this stuff just plain aint working

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Oct-28-00 AT 05:31PM (GMT)[p]K, got it to work. and those screenshots aren't fake. They're legit, I apolagize for my earlier comments on graphic editing. Now, since I can't remember if he admitted it was a mod or not, I would like to know if it was or wasn't. But, either way, the pics aren't fake. where's the red box thingy anyways? nice shotgun btw, didn't know they could have 7/2 ammo loaded :) crashed the game :P

RE: *sigh*

First of all, I think you all owe the man an apology.

He said he was using a mod that changed some weapons that you probably didn't have installed, that was maybe why your shotgun had 7/2 ammo.

RE: *sigh*

Come on Testes, Roshambo was doing his job, and the rest of us had normal human distrust. Those are the things that save us from wasting incredible ammounts of time. And we're all only human. But then again, considering some of the things Windows 98 does sometimes, I suppose anything is possible.

RE: *sigh*

1. "This is the result of putting Booze in the Bag and walking round a bit... The weight changed to 19907 pounds afterwards, and then, about minus 18 million."

Doesn't explain HOW it happens. I find the thought that it just 'pops' into your inventory a tad ludicrous. It wouldn't be added into your inventory, it would corrupt and replace another item. So far, he hasn't mentioned what item it replaced, or how this item showed up into the inventory.

2. "Once again, continually changing. I have other pictures (see below)."

Not when I took a look at it. And went through several cities. The graphic stayed that of the original blocking hex, but the weight changed around.

3. "But if it matters to you, I loaded a saved game from some time before it happened, and EXACTLY THE SAME THING OCCURED." - Rock

"Very well. Let me make you the same offer we've made others. Put that saved game into a .zip file, and upload it somewhere. If it checks out, great, but for all intents and purposes it does look like you are bullshitting around. A detailed list of why below. If you are found to be really bullshitting us, then you can kiss your presence here goodbye, because we have a Zero Tolerance policy when it comes to this." - myself

The save file was AFTER the event occured. NOT before it. I wanted to see the game accidentally hex-edit itself. Oh, yes, I know exactly how these things happen, I've done it before, for Fallout 1. It's called 'hex-editing the save file'. You could walk around with pieces of furniture and other items in your inventory - BUT item values and scenery are so far apart, for it to happen by using two items in conjunct is absurd. You'd have a better chance of Windows reprogramming itself to be as stable as Unix. So yes, you can walk around with this item, and it's quite easy to do it when you use A.X.E. or something else, and know the address and new hex value to place it as.

But you have to hex-edit an item already existing in the inventory, and you can't 'create one out of thin air'. So again, the blocking hex came from somewhere, and it didn't have an add call to it (means 'add to a list', in this case, the inventory - and this supposedly happened with holding one item inside another, and all of a sudden this just appears), it must have replaced something. The fact that what it replaced has never been mentioned brings the smell of a salmon cannery into the picture.

I'm getting thoroughly sick of this...

It replaced the Booze is what it meant. Hey, I thought it was more than a tad ludicrous as well.

That's odd that the frame didn't change.

And I don't even know how to hex-edit save files, ok? Even if I did, I'm too lazy to bother to do it just to try to impress. Yeah, it's absurd, but why don't you ask my computer why it happened? Far as I know, it's not even possible to edit inventory to get some kind of script in there, though- hence, Dom Devore's difficulty with f2ie.

Look, I really don't know, but I'm going to ask some knowledgeable people about the matter. At least you know I'm not bullshitting about the blcking hex now.
