Some questions revisited

I tried out some advice with varying results. In case anyone wants to go "you got it wrong, it's really like _this_..." or "oops, I guess I wasn't serious about that":

---

I asked: How do you please Lynette in the Gecko affair? Someone wrote that you can get her to grant you citizenship.

Someone said: Tell her you fixed the problem but not the plant.

I say: Yep, that worked, only it seems kinda pointless because she hardly reacts, let alone gives you any reward (you still have to go to McClure for that).

Someone else said: She wants you to kill the ghouls.

I say: I tried killing every sentient being in Gecko (i.e. excepting the brahmin, the dogs, and the maintenance bot), but it does nothing, I can only tell Lynette "I'm working on it".

---

I asked: How do you get the /&#"%#% Pip /&%# Boy /&/#" Lingual (/#"&/#&# Enhancer !/&"/&!!??

Someone said: You need high PE when you talk to her downstairs.

I say: I set my PE, IN and so on to 10. It made no difference to dialogue either before or after sex, and no matter if the sex was "good" or not.

---

By the way, I think it's fascinating about the Pip Boy Medical Enhancer. Makes you wonder if there's any other secret left in the game that no one ever found after years of playing and hacking. I suppose people could come forward and say they'd always known about this only they never thought to tell anyone, but I don't think I'd believe them. :)

RE: Some questions revisited

High percption isn't enough, you *have* to talk to her about Vault City. Try asking about Vault 13.

RE: Some questions revisited

The biggest problem with FO2 is that it's not finished, so that alone creates some interesting complication in quests. Some of the quests weren't even "active", but you can still get the rewards or information about them. For example: Hubologist's treasure, or the quest to take out the slavers in Den and putting all the kids into an orphange. If you have high enough science skill(maybe combine with high LUC), you should be able to hack into the Hub mainframe and learn of a treasure trove. I got very excited when I hacked into the Shi's Emperor mainframe that supposedly have something simliar to GPS that will help me locate it, only to be told by the veterans that the quest never got completed.:( This kinds of problem seems to blanket the game somewhat. Therefore, I came to a conclusion a long time ago that there is no point to try to find a comprehensive, one "best" way to do any of quests.(I know you probably don't want to hear that.:D) So I often go with the flow of the game, and role play it out as my character would want it. Sometimes I would try to do a quest 15 different ways I can think of(reloading often in the process), and just to see what I can get away with without damaging the overall game structure.(meaning not killing everything that moves, it was fun couple times, but gets boring after that.) Maybe it has nothing to do with your stats, maybe you can't articially hype them, or maybe your char. is just not a "Sterling Performer".:D;-) The fun is finding it out. That is why I never use empathy perk, it takes away from all the fun, but I usually know all the correct choices neverthelss. I stop trying to have a perfect game, and just let the experience carry me forward. If you know exactly what to do next, it sometimes stops people exploring possibilities.

Anyway, there are some secrets that I've personally never heard of, but it just happen to pop up lately. Did you catch the one about the scorpion's glasses and rocket man? Did you think to do that? You would think after the incident at the Vault 8's medicial archives, we would try something like that more often.

Well, I talked a bit too long again, but being stuck in my office tends to do that sometimes. Man, it's still snowing outside.

RE: Some questions revisited

Just a couple more of those references to unfinished places/quests: Maida in Klamath will tell you about the settlements nearby, and she will mention sulik's village southwest. (And according to the recently discovered unfinished map layouts, that's where Sulik's village was supposed to be) Also, sergeant Stark in Vault City speculates that the raiders have some tribal helping them travel when you ask about them. (Shadow-Who-Walks is in the game, but his role was never finished. Take a look at "Ask Avellone" at Vault13.net to get more in-depth information about him.)

As for the scorpion's spectacles.. It's just amazing how we are still discovering new things about this game after so many years! :-) I'm yet to test this myself, but I just got to Broken Hills so it shouldn't be long now. (I'm curious as to know what the Visual Skill Enhancer actually does)

And while I'm at it.. Starseeker, what "Vault 8 medical record incident" would you be referring to? I take it it's some other than the one where you search the records for 80 times or so? ;-)

I did, of course. As I said there was no difference.

starseeker: That post was long (bleh :)) but i agree with it completely. Especially about the part about the empathy perk :).. i never get that for that reason exactly

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. Then they'll be a mile away--and barefoot.

RE: Some questions revisited

I think he's referring to the information about combat implants in Vault-8's medical computers.

RE: Some questions revisited

I was refering to both of them. I didn't even bother with checking the medicial computer for the implants until my second char.(my first medicial skill was too low). And I did not find out about the info you get after checking 80times after that. Makes you wander, doesn't it? Maybe I should go repeat some annoying dialogue options now. :D

RE: Some questions revisited

I experimented some more and now I've finally figured out how the whole thing works. You were right about the Vault City thing, of course, Ergil, but you were wrong about Perception. In fact you can do it with PE 1, but you need IN 9 in order to get the "Are you from Vault City?" line, which is why raising PE alone didn't do anything for me (had IN 8). And the quality of the sex doesn't have anything to do with it. So the whole procedure is:

1. Ask her about the GECK until you notice that she's "remembering something pleasant".

2. You need CH 6 to get to sleep with her.

3. You need IN 9 to ask if she's from VC.

4. Presto!

One more mystery solved. I cracked the Jet Antidote bug too, so now only the darn blast doors and pariah dog remain. Reading the walkthroughs like Katman's and Steve Metzler's I get the impression they consider walking back through the puzzle room to be the "normal" way and the emergency staircase a hidden option (although Katman makes no mention of the computer function in question, and doesn't make a whole lot of sense on the whole). Maybe then the emergency systems shutdown doesn't close the emergency staircase as I supposed (because for me it has always been open once I blow the reactor, and the puzzle room closed) but instead opens it. Only I tried doing this before the emergency staircase opens on its own and nothing happened as before. And I had my IN and Science at ridiculous levels. Gah.

RE: Some questions revisited

No you didn't, too bad.
I get to sleep with her every time, and my CH is 2.
Also, ST got something to do with this becasue I tried a char with ST 2 and couldn't; came back later with a Power Armor on and she asked about the 'drinks'.

I suppose she makes some overall estimate of one's physical appearance, then. More Falche experimenting coming up...
