[FO2] Starting weapons

Starting weapons

I have played fallout 2 for a long time, but almost every time I get a fight with somebody they have better stuff than me. This mainly happens in random encounters. The best weapon I have till I make it to New Reno is a hunting rifle that I get from killing the 2 traders in the Den, because you don't lose karma for it. I was wondering if anyone knows of a better weapon before New Reno that I missed.

Hmm? Before reno? And I thought I always get the good stuff too late! :-)

The hunting rifle isn't bad, mind you. Sometimes I also end up using for a while.

Well, first of all, I often get H&K CAWS's and Pancor Jackhammers from bandits/raiders/slavers on my way to Vault City, after the Den (often even before Modoc!). You should perhaps walk around there a bit while going there. You can also get some good pistols from VC if ya fancy 'em. Hmm.. let's see now, I'm pretty sure there's MUCH more but somehow my head is empty... Ugh, sorry. Somebody help :-)

Didn't you get a .44 revolver from one of those merchants. Not the .44 magnum but the .44 revolver. It is the best, imo, single handed gun (not counting energy weapons) in the game. You can also get an assault rifle in Modocs ghost farm. You can get a H&K CAWS in random encounters around VC with slavers. In VC, you can buy a combat shotgun. You can get an FN FAL in Broken hills.

Yes I did get the revolver. when I got close to VC I got the H&K CAWS in an encounter between slavers against VC guards, and almost got killed in the cross fire.

OOooooOOo...The Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 magnum, the most powerful hand gun in the world, able to blow a man's head clean off. I created a char named "Dirty Harry" who used that gun exclusively. Kept getting killed by guards with miniguns, mutants with plasma rifles, raiders with assault rifles and Enclave patrols. :-( I gave up on DH and created a new char named "Varmitator" but I had a hard time trying to get a Flamer Mk II "Varmitator" for him to use. Oh well.

The guass pistol is much more powerful, has better range, but ammo scares. I guess a gun with ammo is better than a stronger gun without ammo :-)

ok, here is the deal, go to redding, go to the sherif house, there is some lockers it's free you don't have to steal it! there are a hunting rifle, some stim's, a shotgun with ammo, some jet, a and 14 mm pistol

that is good to start with

p.s when traveling to reno there is some basic tips:

1.if you meet yakuza, run
2.if you got a good lockpick skill go to bishops place go upstairs there is some locker´s with some goods in it
3.dont go down the bishops basement until you is finisht the boxing thing
4. the most importent rule.....DON'T MESS WITH THE BOSS'ES

Thanks for the tips. But I'm taking out all the bosses except Mr. Wright. I know how to kill them without being attacked by their men. I only have trouble with the Bishop's, because of my low traps skill. Doing this may lower my karma but doesn't the end justify the means?

Go around NEW RENO and meet lobsters(i mean mobsters).Kill them and you have a tommy gun and SNIPER RIFLE.
