Why does it always do this?

I love playing fallout 2. However, I can never seem to finish the darned thing.. I mean.. I kill Frank Horrigan, then save the game, and then I go and step through the door, and then as soon as the endgame movie starts, the game crashes on me. Every time. It's starting to anger me too. And before any of you ask, yes. I do have the patch correctly installed.

Is there a way to fix this? If not, does anybody have a savegame of it after the game ends? I would like to get to some of those quests that are only available after the game ends...

RE: Why does it always do this?

Have you tried reinstalling? Sometimes things like that just happen. And what quests that you can only reach after the game has ended? I cant think of any off the top of my head.. And i have some savegames of after-the-end but i probably play differently than you so you wouldnt be able to do whatever you wanted.

RE: Why does it always do this?

Yes, I have tried re-installing. I've also tried re-downloading the patch, making sure that during the download nothing went wrong... And It starts with the audio going for Klamath... And then at the end of the thingie on klamath, the screen goes blank for about a second, and then my character on the Docks of Sanfranscisco appears, and then I get a blue screen of death.

For awhile, I thought it was falche2 that was causing this problem. But then I go to the end of the game without hacking any of the files, and it still didn't work... So I'm at a complete loss.

I mean the fun after-the-game-ends stuff... Like dating Miss Kitty... Or getting the book from Father Tully... Or seeing if Arroyo is still empty after the game ends... You get the picture...

RE: Why does it always do this?

Does this happen with all the different char. you played? Or do you just keep repeating one?

Anyway, two things I can think of right now. 1. You got a corrupted hard drive, which means no matter how many times you re-install the stupid thing, it won't make a difference. You can try downloading all important files and reformat it from the ground up, but it's usually better to get a new one since it's so cheap these days.

2. Your CD could be damaged. It's possible that your cd is scratched on that one point, thus preventing the game from progressing further from there.

RE: Why does it always do this?

I'm familiar with this phenomenon, and seeing as you've encountered it too it leads me to think there's some sloppy code in there. The problem occurs if you save your game AFTER killing Horrigan but BEFORE stepping outside. As far as I know there is no way to fix this problem, so I suggest you save before starting the fight with Horrigan, but not after. (Until you've safely reached the SF docks again)

Then again, if this continues to happen even if you don't save then I'm as lost as you are. But this is just what I've encountered.

RE: Why does it always do this?

I don't think either of those really sounds like the cause of the problem. If it were a bad disc, you'd think it would have crashed during installation, and a bad harddrive would probably have more noticeable symptoms.

RE: Why does it always do this?

First off, Thanks to everyone for their help :) I greatly appreciate it

Starseeker: I have tried and tried and tried with different characters and different different actions (Like having an evil character... Or having a character that goes back every month to the Golden Globes and makes a movie, you get the picture). But it always happens at the same spot every time.

I don't think that I have a corrupted hard drive, because the one I've got now is only one week old...

And I'm thinking that CD damage is possible.. Mostly because I've had the game ever since it was first available and there's bound to be wear damage... That and while experimenting with it I found that I couldn't do the max install I could do the other ones, but not the "Oh, my god, that's a huge amount of space" installation... But then again, at one time, I could, but I STILL had the problem... SO...

Saboteur: Thanks, I'll try that...

Once again, thanks to all :)
