So I'm at a point I want karma
I got Thought You Died and I'd like as much sweet HP as I can
and AFAIK can only get some if I do the final blow on the enemy. I thought of having my companions drop from combat and the best I found was to use the command "tcai" and although it had the undesirable effect of the enemy stop all violence, worse is even if I made the boring kill (I like to have something try to kill me as I do that) I don't gain any karma from that. So I've been leaving my companions enough behind so they wouldn't join the fight unless I backtracked. I want to have them close enough so I can run to them should I be overwhelmed, so every few minutes I go back and have them come forward a bit, it's tedious.

My wish is for the companions to only soften some enemies, so not attack them below a certain health, not a portion as some have low health and just 1 hit from a companion might kill them. Barring that, a command stopping their attack would be nice. I'd settle for anything that I can get the karma of the kill (even if it mean the enemy just standing there). Is there any way to do so?

    Thank you kindly

I'd give them lower powered gear if you're arming them manually
