Im trying to follow the instructions here : https://www.nma-fallout.com/resources/bis-mapper.55/

    But its not very clear.

First, i extracted the entire download into a folder. Am i supposed to run the installer inside the download? Or has it already been run, because I can see a BIS Mapper sub folder in the download complete with the high res patch applied? It has m2_res.ini at least.

I setup the data paths and the m2_res.ini as described. OK. I then copied the killap patch folder into the mapper script folder and overwrote everything.

Then i tried running mapper2.exe, at which point it kept complaining that it could not initialize the video.

I found an old thread by someone saying that they managed to get it to work by setting compatability settings to use 640x480. I tried this and the program launched, but I just got a black map screen afterwards. Is this normal?

Do you use the english game or a different language?

"language" in the mapper.cfg needs to be the same as your fallout2.cfg has.

It is until you load a map...

    Did it look like this?
    scr00000.jpg

If so... The menu is hidden at the top; just raise the mouse upwards to reveal it.

On a related question, are the scripts the mapper uses the same as the 1.02d source codes by Haenlomal?

Thanks, that was it. Confused as to why i cant get the mapper program to run in a higher resolution though, if i dont have "run in 640x480" in compatability tab checked, i get the "failed to initialize" error.

Off hand, I'd assume that the replacement ddraw.dll is app specific. Of course Fallout 1, 2, and the mapper only support 640x480. Perhaps there is a ddraw lib made for the mapper?

I thought the whole point of the high res patch was to allow the program to run in a higher res? Unless that does not work with the mapper for some reason...does it work for anyone else?

It allows the game to operate at a higher resolution—sort of, but the mapper exe is not a match for the game exe. Maybe there is a way, but I have not seen it; I have never used the mapper at a higher res.

AFAIK ( unless the mod does resampling (??) ), all that the hi-res patches can do is to increase the dimensions of the visible map. That's why the UI looks so strange, floating in the middle center of the screen.

The mapper links each give a "Route forum/dload.php could not be found" error.

Just grab the files from here then. I'm sure there are other download links somewhere, but I'm not really in the mood to look for them right now.

If you're running windows 10 I ran into a similar problem, check this video and let me know if it's the same problem you're having:
