Yes, I'm sure a really amusing campy movie means he's a good director...? Or not? The Meet the Feebles/Braindead camp of moviemaking does not show a particular great talent.
 
Why are there two? I understood with the first three since there were three books...

It seems like a plan to just milk the cash cow

Shows talent for making gory comedies which is probably what he should've stuck to, given that the LOTR movies were a bit mediocre and boring.
I was just sayin', he did good with his earlier stuff.

I'm slightly more pleased that there are two. The three LOTR films were tremendously rushed (plot-wise) and ended up missing out/changing/inventing things so they could fit into the allotted time.
There were some good points to them, but mostly they were unwatchable, if one has read the books. (Note: I've read them a couple of times, some years ago, I'm not really what one would call a devotee).

If they were made as six/nine films, they might have had time to make them more accurate, but people would obviously lose interest.

I'm curious to see what he does with this.
 
I wonder if I should try out for a role as an extra this time, I was down in Wellington when they were filming the original ones and they were after tall skinny people to be elf cannon fodder, I just never got around to applying.

There's a good chance that some of them will be filmed wear I live, mainly becase there is actaully a mountain here unlike in wellington.

Actaully in one of the big battle scenes its got a couple of my friends yelling in it, err well sort of they were at a big criket match in wellington and Pete showed up and got the whole stadium to yell certian things out and recorded it for the movies.
 
I'm looking forward to these Hobbit movies, as I always liked the Hobbit more than the LOTR books. I hope they do a good job on the spider fight scene in the forest.

I'm also looking forward to Transformers 2. Sheesh. Some people are wayyyy too picky about movies. :P

IMO the LotR movies are masterpieces. The only bad thing about them is the non-extended version of the third movie, because of the immense plotholes. You're missing like half the movie if you don't watch the extended version...

I mean.. seriously. Was Tom Bombadil that important? Although I do highly recommend anyone should read the books first, it's also very good to see many of my favorite moments from the books brought to life on film. It's not like they purchased the books and wrote a sequel and said, "Okay here's how it works. We're going to kill off all the hobbits, Aragorn is going to be the next Witch King, and Gandalf is going to rally the ents to defeat him!"
