How to make a portrait in FoT! (New Way!)

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Vey Simple!

1°) Scan the image you want in the portrait!

2°) Cut the background with photoshop or any other graphic program and put the background in White Color.

3°) Scale it to 75x100 pixels

3°) Now change it to Grayscale

4°) With photoshop (or any other program) setup the Contrast and Brightness of the photo! Make sure to make a HIGH contrast with the background!

5°) Save it in PNG

6°) Go to FoT campain editor and use the Conversor (PNG to ZAR) to convert it to .zar format!

7°) Rename the File to: CORE_prefab1.zar (for a male Character) or CORE_prefab4.zar (for a female character)

8°) Inside your FoT Dir... "Fallout Tactics\core\gui\" create a new folder Called "char" ((Fallout Tactics\core\gui\char))

9°) Insert the file into the folder and start the game... and enjoy!

You need the 1.27 patch (for the Editor)

Any problem or Questions post it here!

Sorry my English

Not really a new way.

Steps 3 and 4 are unnecessary depending on your original image, Step 2 is also unnecessary depending on your original image and how you crop it. You don't even need to scale it to 75x100, if you have a bigger image (like 150x200) the game will only show the center of the image in the portrait window.

Find a portrait crop it in close and you won't even notice the background. Save it as a png and convert it to a zar. Stick in core\gui\char, then extract the files male.txt, female.txt etc from the Bos files to core\tables and then add the file name of your zar to the bottom of the list and it'll show up when you create a new character.

Agreed.

Besides, there is a way better way then renaming it to a "prefab" file.

Just dump the ready .taz image in your gui/char archive and then look up the .txt files in core/tables

You should have 6 of them:

Deathclaws
Female
Male
Robots
Mplayer
Supermutant

Oddly, there is no "ghouls.txt" file. If anyone knows why, please tell me, because it doesn't make any sense to me.

To associate a given .taz image in your char folder, just open the text file and add the filename of the image (minus .taz) to the end of it and save.

This way you can also make your own portraits for other racers, such as if you're using the delicous "race mod". Unless you're playing a ghoul. Yeah... as I said, please tell me if you know something :D

Isn't that what I said?

Okay I didn't add the drop the .zar (is .taz swedish for .zar?) but since none of the other entries in those files have the extension I thought it was pretty obvious that you'd shouldn't include it.

Because you haven't extracted it from the entities_0.bos file.

*blinks several times and then has a huge cup of stronge coffee*

Sorry. I missed that part of your post and confused the file format with .taz, a type of compression. Taz, zar, what's the difference? ;)

Custom portrait problems

For the past few days, I have been trying to implement my own pretty mug into the game. However, I noticed right away that there were no files present in Fallout Tactics\core\user\char. I've followed the steps made available by both Unborn and The Chosen to the letter but I always come short when I have to fiddle around with something in the char folder. Simply because there are no files present.

So, here is a breakdown of what I have done:

Created a character before patch to 1.27
Played up to Quincy
Patched to 1.27
Followed steps detailed in Unborn's tutorial and THe Chosen's.
Was unable to locate any of the files mentioned.

Thanks for your time!

How would we know? Are we telepaths able to read your mind and see which portrait you picked?

Start a new game count how many portraits you have to click through until you find the one you picked. Compare that to the male or female text files that go in core\tables.

There's no need for that kind of attitude. I was going to post a screenshot of my portrait but I was feeling too ill to do it right away. I'm a cop and I deal with jerks everyday. I realize that, after dealing with seemingly idiot questions and guiding grown adults by the hand to where they need to go, we form a sort of "callous", if you will. In any case, I'm new to this editing scene and I was not aware of my mistake. I apologize for bursting a blood vessel or two in your head.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know the portraits by heart, you can find it the same way I would as posted above.

It's not a prefab, or a tribal odds are it starts CORE_rec_hm.

You can also download Red Viewer and use that to preview the zars, sprites and tiles.

New own image next to character

I cannot found how i can change or make new image to fallout tactics myself. My face can be imported to the game but unfortunately i cannot remind that trick. I knew there on the internet was a page where everything was shown how to make own image. Has anyone known that link? Or someone has known how to do it?. Please describe this here. THX

Just in case nobody has come to the discovery, if You save your portrait in BMP image and just rename it to ZAR the game displays it without a problem, thus saving You a "lot" of importing. All You need is to know which name to use.

This is going to sound dumb, But...

Could someone do me the favour of talking a head shot of riddic from this pic

link

and make me a headshot for the riddic recruit?

I have no ideal what i'm doing and geting that green right is hard.

heh and i'm going to need a little help installing it

anyhoo thanks in advances.

Jesus

:| Jesus, I am the crappiest hacker there is. I'm trying to understand what you guys are talking about, but I don't get a single word your saying! I don't want to come across as a jackass, but can someone, in words a 10 year-old can understand, explain what you have to do to put a picture in Fallout Tactics? I have a good one, but i don't understand all of this techno-talk about files and stuff. Thanks a bunch!
