Internet Explorer 6...

Karel

Still Mildly Glowing
For those who still use it - would you use if you knew you have to pay for it in price of products you buy online?

Because I have spent a whole day optimizing one f****** webpage to display correctly in that piece of s*** and seriously, I'm going to invoice two separate things - making the web for normal browsers and making it barely work in IE 6 and I wonder what the customer is going to say, as the IE part is making one third of the price (I charge double rate for boring exhausting useless tasks  ).

Dude, nobody uses IE 6. Not even FARC rebels in their revolutionary laptops in the heart of the Colombian jungle. Not even Chukchas at the end of the world.

well, what can I say, if IE7 hadn't made my computer unbootable, I'd be using it instead.

I don't need more bloated 3rd party shit on my computer when I have a browser that works just fine built-in.

Who wants to see all that newfangled flash garbage anyway?

Indeed. I've been using Mozilla since it was in the milestone stages and converted to Firefox when it came out. Before this I used Netscape when it wasn't bloatware city. I honestly don't think I ever used IE for any long period of time.

O yea, Freifox is great. I love when my internet browser takes up a gig of memory simply because no one's ever bothered to fix the memory leaks.

Sure I use it, but it's far from teh be all end all solution.

There are still some dudes, who use IE 5. Yes, I see it in my webspace statistics.

SimpleMinded, you already use FF3? Because, there the memory issue should be fixed.

About two percent of visitors use IE 5 / 5.5. Nobody cares. About 30 % of visitors (regularly) use IE 6 - that's quite a lot to cut them off by making a site completely unusable in their browser (IE 7 usually requires only minor changes as it has fewer bugs, but IE 6 can't even do transparency for png).

I just wonder why all the people do that? (I haven't used IE for several years and testing a webpage in IE 7 makes me feel suicidal - who invented its interface anyway?).

Opera > All.

Even Firefox.

Opera invents. Firefox mimics. Internet Explorer steals.

I tried Opera for a good quarter year or so after you posted that link, and it just wasn't better for me. No plugins+loads every third page weird=not as good as Firefox. I know there's some good to it, and I don't mean to discount that, it's a very serviceable browser in many ways, but the way it rapes so many web pages just doesn't make it fun.

Edit for grammar

Opera is more the kind of programmer browser... There are many good thing inside, but the "normal" people can not see them. Thats why Firefox is better (for them).

We do not need to talk about the IE. It isn't worth the hate and stuff. :> Everytime I create a new website, I don't want to see it in IE... but in the end it has to be done. :/

/Edit: But thanks for conditional comments. It makes the "IE-fixing" easier.

I'm not sure if this is what you or Karel might be looking for, but Firefox has a very simple plugin called "IE Tab" that puts a little icon in the browser tray so you can switch any tab to be viewed as though through IE. I haven't tested it out too much, but it works so far.

Yep, unfortunately. I'd heard that had been fixed and that was the only reason I'd downloaded it. Still, it cranks up there albeit, a bit slower now.

Mickeysoft still controls the largest share of the market. so IE still reigns. and many people have not updated to the lastest IE.

so yes, a FUCKTON of people still use IE 6.

about 25-30% of the people visiting our corporate webby still use IE6.

I have internet explorer. It's the default browser for the Pipboy 3000. Also it's not like there's any existing internet for me to download any of these other browsers save for the closed-community only Vault-line which with us being trapped underground for 100 years has basically only been used to play games and share porn all of which is over 100 years old.

I remember suggesting once we contact Vault 15 we could lay some cable between them and us, but then I found out the place was deserted and trashed. Still hoping they're some functioning vaults still looking to expand their network. Of course I'll still have to find alot of caps and cable to get connected.

Whatever it's a pipe dream.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller
