Just as I thought all hope was lost... Fans band together and pay for an advertisement campaign to save the canceled program... For the 2nd time! For more info about the new Save Jericho Again campaign Visit www.savejerichoagain.com
Obviously, no one cared enough about Firefly to actually do anything about it. This reminds me of the whole Farscape fiasco though...
While that may be the case, I'd like to beleive it has more to do with Firefly and other shows that have been canceled that people did enjoy. I think its the culmination of the discontinuation of those shows that have resulted in an "rabid" "gritty" fan base that has put their foot down... Sounds familiar? There are television programs that far exceed Jericho while there are allot of shows that pale in comparison to it. The problem is, the latter half continues to flourish. Whether or not Jericho is the hot ticket folks say, I'm incline to bask in its wave after wave of toxic air that flows toward CBS. With any luck, in the future folks enjoying other shows that suffer the same fate will rise up and put the networks in their place. Viva la revolution de televisión?! ...I say lets send them packing peanuts until they can no longer accept deliveries.
one of the problems- people will continue to watch TV. So instead of paying for expensive dramas with limited audience, they go for reality shows- "super nanny", "American idol" "dancing with the stars" "America's next model,"- which are cheaper to produce and still earn enough ratings to pay for advertising. To be honest, if Jericho had the undead (zombies!), I would be more interested.
The internet has become far more powerful than it was in 2002 when Firefly was canceled. It just wasn't possible to organize such an effort back then. But canceled shows are coming back more and more now because of the fans making their voices heard. They are beginning to realize the power they have and and I think we're going to see this sort of thing a lot more often from now on.
BTW an update on Jericho. There are talks going on at CBS in regards to selling the Jericho IP. My bet is Mark Stern will pick it up at the Sci-Fi network... That is, if someone does not murder him first... He is the Rupert Murdock of Science Fiction... Just not as successful, fortunately. Either way, we will see what happens. Jericho can fit in at allot of different networks. For those interested in helping keep the show alive... Convince CBS/Paramount to: Find Jericho a new home on another network (with an online component) and/or possibly pursue a theatrical release as a motion picture. I heard about Jericho before but never really paid attention, checked wiki and i like the plot, will give it a shot , hope it is good. Edit: Just watched 15th episode of 1st season, wouldnt say it is the best show ever, but i'd say it is a good watch for a Fallout fan.
