Might & Magic Series (you know, fairies and all that)

So, I just got myself a DVD containing M&M 6 through 9 as well as two shitty action games set in the M&M world.

Being an avid RPGer, I couldn't pass an occassion to get some classics for 15 zł (some 4 - 5 Euro) and now I would like to know which of the four M&Ms is best to start with?

I remember Mandate of Heaven was good, though my memory tends to be shoddy.

From the graphical standpoint, M&M 6 through 8 look exactly the same. In all other regards, M&M 6 is the best game in the series. It gets slightly worse and worse with each consecutive sequel, until it comes to M&M 9, which can be easily called Fallout 3 of the Might and Magic universe. Expect tons of bad writing, dreary 3D graphics, removed features, oh, and also super duper fireballs

At that times they were great games. I guess it caters certain type of people who like turn based combat and inventory microing. But for the love of god skip MM9 and go for Dark Messiah. At least with Dark messiah I finished it more then 1 time to try out different skill paths and endings. From 6-8 games im more inclined to 8 since it had diverse char selection. And you have to like a game that lets you make a minotaur char.

I loved 6 and have played through it at least 4 or 5 times. While I tried 7, I just never could get into it in the same way. I don't know, I just felt like the world in 6 was easier to wrap your head around.

Six is the best out of six to nine.

Seven is decent, eight is ok, and nine is abysmal.
The series was caught in a downward spiral much as Ultima at that point.

PS - Dark Messiah is an abomination and whoever recommends it over Mandate of Heaven is a despicable creature that has no place in human society.

M&M 6, i like it best, played it most and never finish it... =.,=

M&M 6 was the first M&M published in china mainland. M&M3-M&M5 only published in HK & taiwan.

it was well translated and even with lively dub.

i like travelling in M&M 6 rather than "serve the lords and save the princess".

but after the Elder Scroll III came out, i found a better place for travelling...

the universe of M&M is great...especially the conspiracies across the stars ;p

Hey, Dark Messiah is among the best FPSlashers in existence. What is not to like about kicking people off high ledges or through windows? ;)

For the record: I just intalled M&M6. Apart from a hilariously weird intro the game looks awesome. Need to read the manual, though, since I have no clue what the skills do.

Dark Messiah is a game on its own and should be thought as that. M&M6-8 form a trilogy of sorts and personally though as one game with 3 chapters. A advice before start playing, read some of the walkthroughs or FAQs about races, classes & skills. If you find that you like that type of game then there is the Wizardry 8 form makers of Jagged Alliance 2.

What I found interesting was the way leveling worked. It's not just a matter of "kill some bad guys, go level up." Since leveling cost a week of game time and money, I typically didn't do it for just one level.

Guys, I need help. I got lord Kilburn's shield, but it seems now that the game freezes every. Single. Time. I try to entel Ironfist's Castle to talk to the Regent...
