Oh my Twinkie, you must have really liked that movie to react in such way. I wrote what I thought about it, because I saw Brother None's posting his opinion about it (strange you didn't comment on that ) and frankly, I couldn't understand how could anyone consider it very scary. Maybe I should quote his post too, instead of yours only, but it doesn't matter now.

I could write you a review of the movie and tell you precisly why I didn't like it (apart from introducing nothing new at all), but this is not the place AND I would have to watch it again. Sometimes people aren't polite, so deal with it, instead of trying to offend my *intelligently*. Guillermo Del Toro should stop making movies about magical kids\ghost kids and do something new, he is getting repetitive. BTW, I didn't like Pan's Labyrinth, too.

I consider this discussion over - if you wish to continue it, I'm not interested.

To remain on topic - Ironman, Requiem for a Dream (although you've probably seen it) and Devil's Backbone are my propositions for you.

Yesterday I watched a movie called "The Nines" with Ryan Reynolds.

It's a intriguing movie, with a mix of comedy, reality tv and some kind of sci-fi mystery.

Give This Is England a go. Great film about skinheads, the blurry lines of racism, and 1980s England in general.

Evil Dead series: Classic, cheesy, and overall fun)

Pulp Fiction: I really can't explain how much I love this movie. It just fucking takes you into the characters and won't let go until the movie ends.

Unbreakable: I heard lots of negative reviews about the movie. Then you ask them if they watched the whole movie. They say no. Fuck them. Watch the whole movie and then judge it.Lots of great movies have had slow starts.

    good ones:

"the man from earth". quiet movie, like a little get-together with some of my more academic friends. great plot, great actors. dont expect any action - its like a good book, everything happens in the dialogue and on the inside. of you.

"serenity". nice sf-story, nice acting, good action. hell, i LOVE SF.

"vantage point". transport rashomon to 2007, add some good acting, great camera work, put a real nice twist into the plot, and youll be totally satisfied.

"battle royale". or, battoru royary. another japan flic with takeshi kitano. extremely gruesome violence, the story is ridiculous (high school class has to fight till last man standing) but i enjoyed it greatly. 2 hours of sheer fun.

"american gangster". damn i liked the acting, i liked the pics, the story. i liked the naked ladies mixing the dope. i liked the way violence was shown (very little), and how the story is at the same time unbelievable and absolutely believable. great film.

"WAZ". though they oversimplified the price equation, i didnt give a fuck. good horrorthriller, very explicit violence. great plot and one of the cutest massmurderers evar. the end might be something db would like.

"Batman begins". bale is a great actor, so thats a first plus. i really liked the way the story unravels, how wayne becomes batman. nice action, very good actors (not too often seen in marvel or dc movies), fantastic camera work.

    "planet terror". see battle royale.

"i am legend" didnt know the prince of bel air could play. well, he can. everything in it youd expect, even the a bit cheesy hero ending. i really liked the depiction of the post-apocalyptic new york. it was new york, was it?"

So last night I finally watched National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets. Not as good as the first, but enjoyable enough for a popcorn flick...

Also watched my old copy of Westworld...fun movie, needs more nudity though.

Having Silent Running on the ready for tonight, never seen it, though it looks interesting.

Kicking and Screaming (1995) - not that soccer flick.
Very funny and has Eric Stolz as lifetime student. :)

    Dead man's shoes

    Hardware (decent apoc flick)

    The ice harvest

    Payback - Director's Cut

    Dazed and Confused

    The Quiet Earth

    Zero Day

    The man who wasn't there

Only a few I can think of right now.

Requiem for a Dream is indeed ace.

Piranha 2 The Spawning was thrilling as were Piranha and Anaconda.
The Living Daylights was good too.

Out of the movies released lately, Prince Caspian is a good fantasy film, not to mention, quite a lot darker than the first Narnia film.

    Goodfellas
    The Departed
    Casino
    Mean Streets

    Misfits
    Donnie Brasco
    Scarface
    The Untouchables

    Theres more out there obviously

"In Bruges" would fit into the gangster movie category.

One of the best films I've seen in the last half year.
It's funny and witty, with good story, scene and acting.
