Well, it's now officially been added in the 1.5 update, a mods section in the main menu that goes to Bethesda.net and requires a login. Honestly super surprised to see that they're actually disabling cheevos and trophies if you use mods, Bethesda normally don't give a crap about stuff like that (using the console doesn't affect cheevos on PC for example).

Going to be very interested to see if they actually are going to try and lock anything down.

Most modders are going to want to stick with Nexus imo. There isn't really any incentive to mod for console users, no offense to any. Most Console users are probably more interested in Nexus for mods as well. If it isn't a complete lockout for mods elsewhere, or if they don't have an incentive like modders getting paid, I can't see mods on Beth.net being successful.

I agree, Nexus is basically the only place I ever use. But this is Bethesda, and after that whole paid mods debacle I can see them screwing the pooch with this.

I'm not against paid mods. If someone makes a good mod then there is no reason he shouldn't get a little something in return for the work he's put in. And besides its not like everyone will start asking money for mods all of a sudden.

That's where the donate button should come in. It's not like people are going to want to pay for a mod they're not even fully sure about.

Never said there's anything bad about paid mods. What's bad is how Bethesda wants to lock it down and take a massive cut for basically doing nothing. They really need to look at other systems already being used (such as the Unreal Tournament remake being worked on right now, where modders can sell their work and both they and Epic get a cut, it's simple and lacks the bullshit surrounding what Valve/Beth tried).

I'm pretty sure there would be some sort of video and list of features to look at before you push the buy button.

Well they made the game... after all. If the mod uses assets made by Bethesda then its their right to get a cut out of it. But if the mod uses new unique assets made by the author then of course Bethesda wouldn't be able to get a big cut out of that.

I'd say that cut needs to be a 5-10% franchise fee and another 5% to a 3rd party site for hosting the mod like Nexus. I would also love to see a download minimum before mods can start charging, if 250 people download a mod and don't have issues outside of user stupidity start charging. That download minimum would also allow other authors to check for stolen assets before some douche looking to cash in through thievery can get paid. Paid mods done right would be a good thing because it would incentivize mod makers to make big mod packs of weapons/armor, as well as better quest mods.

Exactly, Bethesda is being super greedy with it when the only thing they did was provide the game and tools. That's something they'd have done anyway, the mod authors are the ones putting the effort into creating new content. Having the minimum download count and similar things in place is a really good idea as well, nice thought. Yes, Bethesda should get something (as I said above, do it like Epic does and don't be a greedy dick, basically all it requires), but they were being way too greedy over it, to the point where it effectively wasn't even worth bothering.

But I don't think this paid mod thing will take off like Bethesda thinks it will. Because right now the way that mods are created is too easy to just ripoff content creators. Anyone with the CK could open your mod and copy scripts, assets, quests etc. Unless the new CK lets us save mods as .ESM's then its a whole other story. But even then, people can still steal scripts and other intellectual property.

Anyway, the money is not in PC mods but in console mods ;). Any console peasant(sorry couldn't resist) is drooling over the idea of mods coming to the console. I can see those porn mods with skimpy outfits and new female naked body's becoming very popular.

Exactly. Also, you can easily create .esm files already, it's a simple matter of opening an .esp in FO3/FNV/WhateverEdit and changing a flag.

Also lol, I very much doubt Bethesda will even allow nude skins and things, because those would violate Sony/MS terms of service, and that's a can of worms Bethesda will not want to open.

So, just as I expected it was finally unleashed upon us. Bethesda net.

I don't think many people will use their site, when Nexus exists and has got much bigger variety. However, I am worried that they might say: "YOu have got content that was not created by you or anyone at Bethesda net, therefore it is deactivated. If you want this mod posted on bethesda net, please contact the author." That way they would lock off mods from nexus and try to get even more money, just the thought makes me shudder.

Also, is anyone really interested in creating an account for their site? I mean what is the point?

I really, really hope they are dumb enough to do something like this. If they do, all the hope is lost for Bethesda forever and the fans trust.

I hope it's as terrible as their new community forum, that should help the failure of the mods site along a little quicker.

I made an account on the old forum, got warned for speaking my mind about Fallout 4, then never returned. I'm not gonna bother making another account on Bethesda dot net, I can not stand the new layout and the amount of web site scripting going on there makes NoScript have a heart failure.

What makes me mad and cringe is the kind of people that got access to the CK beta. The majority of them never even used the GECK or CK before this. They just applied to the beta because why not. Now these "mod creators" are now making quality mods such as minigun shooting mini nukes. There shouldn't have been a closed beta in the first place, its fucking dumb, since they are going to release it for free anyway. *sigh* I hope they release it soon.. I want to import my NV mods to Fallout 4.

Honestly, I'm not too bitter about it, since it means it'll hopefully be slightly less bu-nope. Sorry. Can't keep a straight face.

Will Bethesda now call a cease and desist order on Nexus, because it "could possible promote cheating and spoil the gameplay experience", like Rockstar did on FiveM?

If they want to commit corporate suicide maybe? Even Beth must understand that doing something as dumb as that would make even their hardcore fans turn on them.

I'm not big into the moding community, but even from a console user, going up against the Nexus is a dumb idea.
In all honesty, I don't care much for Bethesda at this point.
I'm all out of my hate for F4 now, I really don't give a shit about it as much.
But I will talk about it if it deserves discussion, and I think DLC and the treatment of Mods warrant discussion.

Nah, Betsie is not going after the Nexus. Unless the nexus lets its users monetize their mods.
